Hey bud, similar situation here. What they don't tell you is that you can power through it.

This requires an iron will. You will want it to stop, but you gotta keep going.

You don't do FODMAP for the rest of your life. You do it for like two months or something and SLOWLY reintroduce foods, figuring out which ones are possibly the problem foods. It's still a shitty time but it's doable

>> No.13202530

>>13202506
Yeah, that’s the thing though. I’ve already been down that path. I know for sure that I can’t handle fructans, this one is the worst for me. Which means no more garlic and onions. Literally every fucking European recipe ever, as well as most Asian food as well.

>> No.13202623

Have any of you tried taking L-Glutamine? Did that help at all? I wanna cure this shit. I refuse to live the rest of my life like this.

I know this feel. Cut down on fat and fatty foods. Fat is the main problem according to my doctor when I got the diagnosis. Peel as many foods as you can since the skin is hard to break down, resulting in gas. Peel your apple, mix your peas, use a tin of tomatoes instead of fresh ones, and stuff like that. Don’t stop exercising, it gets worse if you do. Also don’t forget to take rehydration salts after your bad shits.

It's forbidden to mention sports drinks with blue #1 here so don't or you'll get banned. Has anyone with IBS tried one of the blue "cool/frost" 'ades with a flair up??

I don't have IBS or know much about it and I'm very curious about this because I was reading about blue 1 and it's very hard to replace and maybe that's alright because it is an anti inflammatory (via blocking heat sensitivity) with 95% passing though unabsorbed. So does any one get flare ups when their torso gets hot

My wife is on the FODMAP because of rather severe Crohn's and yeah, it's real hard.

My wife who got a similar thing that came out of the blue has never been overweight. It's more random genetics than can trigger it.

Are you an athlete or something? Working out excessively is actually a possible CAUSE of IBS.

Jesus Christ, this. I swear, I can go from the fourth notch on my belt to being unable to buckle it and then back. My doctor scheduled a scope for the end of the month, so I'm hoping they'll diagnose something.

Had a similar story, but after some tests and determining it wasn't anything serious and just IBS, my doctor had me try going on a low dose of amitriptyline. It seems to have made things way better.

>> No.13204413

>>13204377
Yes, it's usually an antidepressant, but a low dosage can affect IBS symptoms too. It seems to slow the gut down a bit and so things sort of evened out. Doctor said something like depressive symptoms would take a dose like 75-150mg while I take 25mg for IBS.

>> No.13204416

>>13204381
It causes strong urges out of nowhere and often times you never feel "done" shitting, like there's more just waiting to want out at the worst possible moment. Plus you can't move around right without your gut feeling fucked. It sucks.

>> No.13204419

>>13204381
Depends on the severity. Some people literally have to run to the bathroom after(or during) eating certain foods. That’s not really fun if you’re somewhere which is not at home. The diarrhea can be very painful and you get physically weak if you have diarrhea too often. Some people also get severe stomach pain.

I have had diarrhea since 2006. At times it was so bad that I was constantly on the verge of shitting myself. Had to take anti diarrhea meds before long road trips just in case.

But I just live with it, it's gotten better over the years and sometimes I even have solid shits for a few weeks,
