I've made threads about fried potato cakes like 4 times now and every time someone brings up the fucking kike-cakes.

Just because they're not kosher, doesn't mean they're not latkes.

I'm Jewish (not practicing anymore obviously).
Latkes are made using shredded potatoes, and using flour and vegetable oil is basically a sin, nevermind the bacon.

You're genetically a Jew. Practically all Jews are Atheists, that doesn't mean they aren't Jewish.

I want to say something antisemitic, but you seem like an alright guy and mashed potato pancakes are delicious, so I won't.

Latkes are made with shredded raw potatoes. Much more akin to hash browns than OP’s cakes.

Literally all of that except also 0.5 inches thick with only about a tablespoon of flour instead, then cover in flour, egg wash, breadcrumbs and deep fry

My family always made them with a mix of shredded and mashed.

What happens if you don't use egg, and would I be able to bake instead of fry?

>> No.13177802

I'm sorry about these people OP.

>> No.13177911

The egg is there to help bind. You could do without, it's just that flipping them will be harder and they might kind of crumble. I don't see why you couldn't bake. I would just do it at a pretty high temperature

Do you add butter or milk to the mashed potates?
