What's a good maple leaf syrup and what are some things it can be used for?

T. Curious Europoor

>> No.13146077

For me, it's the 47 organic maple syrup.

Most maple syrup comes from the same place. It’s almost entirely the exact same stuff as long as it is pure maple syrup. Aside from pancakes and french toast, it’s nice on a light white cake, scrambled eggs and sausage, add some chilis and glaze salmon with it, or just pour it on snow and then wrap it around a stick.

The top two aren't even maple syrup and why the fuck is Aunt Jemima's so expensive? It's just corn syrup.

Isn't that what Americans call maple syrup?

>> No.13146138

It can replace honey or brown sugar in recipes. You can also use it to make amazing baked beans - any recipe for Boston baked beans will do, just replace the treacle with maple syrup and use about half what the recipe says unless you're a closet burger.

>> No.13146144

Any real maple syrup is good, even grade B. Organic isn't very important because I don't think they even use pesticides on maple trees. Use it on pancakes, waffles, French toast, porridge/ oatmeal or drizzle over toast in place of jam. Peanut butter and maple syrup sandwich. If you've never had it before please try it it's quite delicious.

Yeah it's really awful how dumb people here are. Even expensive hipster brunch places serve fake maple syrup. There's plenty of the real stuff at the grocery store but I bet Aunt Jemima outsells it 10 to 1. It's not that they can't afford it people are just cheap and stupid.

>maple leaf syrup
maple syrup doesn't come from leaves.
it's just tree sap that they boil until it reduces down to a syrup-like texture

get the kind in cans from quebec or ontario
it's not the best but it's a good start

This, get what says "pure" and "Maple", not "Maple flavored" etc. That's kinda like calling Cool Whip whipped cream. It isn't.

You can tell a difference between pure maple syrups when they're on their own, on a spoon sort of thing. But desu when they're on/in something, the quality and source of it doesn't make any noticeable difference. Definitely different than "Maple flavored corn syrup" though. Different taste and consistency.

If it's noticeably cheaper than others, it's probably not real maple syrup.

I don't think I've ever had Cool Whip.

What does it actually taste like, and more importantly, what the fuck is it actually made out of?

Anon, any real maple syrup will do.

There's some minor variation in color and flavor, and I like the darker richer kinds but as long as it isn't just flavored corn syrup, it will work great!

Doesn't reaalllly taste like whipped cream. Tastes a bit more like real shitty soft-serve iced cream when it's still frozen (you're supposed to let it soften in the fridge before serving, dunno if I ever have). But it's a sweet, creamy, sorta fluffy topping so it fulfills the role. Google the ingredients, but it's basically sugar, water, and oils with some small amounts of milk dirivitives in it.

Lasts for a long ass time in the freezer so we usually keep a container around, but when we plan ahead a nice dessert we'll buy the real stuff.

this is the only maple syrup available in my local supermarket. Is it good?
It costs a little more than 5 eurobucks for a 250 gr bottle.

>> No.13149016

make sure you read the ingredients that there's no corn syrup, it should be pure Maple syrup, other than that maple syrup all tastes the same to me

Might be weird but i love to use it in soups, sauces, Curry etc as substitute for sugar, because there's no need to dissolve it and it tastes better for me. it's also great for roasted squash

Not legally on the label. At a restaurant they may call it maple syrup untruthfully, but at the grocery store if it says maple it's surely tree sap. Most people just say syrup or pancake syrup for the hfcs kind. Personally I buy Krogers Premium Selection brand maple syrup if I buy syrup at all, which is extremely rare.

I mean there's some minor difference in flavor but really all that matters is that it is real maple syrup.

Don't get hung up on where it is from or which sort it is; real maple syrup is what you want, of another sub-variant.
