Imagine being a restaurateur and a bunch of single loners arrive. They take up all the tables, one per each. Wealthy businessmen on a lunch break, the family of tourists, the couples on dates, etc see that there's no tables so they leave. All the loners order the cheapest things on the menu and tap water. After they finish, they continue to sit staring at their smart phones because it's hot/raining/snowing outside and their next classes don't start for another 25 minutes.

Was at a diner a few years back on a Saturday morning that was crazy busy. Some piece of shit niggeress demanded a four person table for just herself even though their was a line out the door of people waiting. Management caved & I ended up at the the table next to her. This fucking entitled nigger cunt put the wait staff through holy hell. It was like her own personal form of reparations. I was so pissed at the owners for giving into her demands I never went back to this place even though it’s literally the best diner in the world. Fucking black women are the worst. That fucking bitch probably got on the highway after breakfast & drove 40 mph in the left lane all the way home.

Because it keeps food costs from soaring. Being a server sucks, it's not work anyone would willingly do if the pay wasn't as good as it was. Say America decides overnight to get rid of tipping- most businesses will lose their entire staff overnight if they dont significantly raise their servers pay, and doing that means they have to either tank the hit or raise the price of food.

This is, in general, very not true. Traveling solo businessmen are very profitable, order high-margin items and plenty of booze, and often tip extravagantly when it’s not their money. Most places worth going to have a “bar” or single seating area exactly for this purpose. Even my tiny corner sushi place with maybe 8 tables (suburban N CA USA) has a 4 person “bar”.
