You have eaten at a Michelin Star restaurant, haven’t you anon?

>> No.13112765

>>13112753
About a dozen one star and a handful of 2 star but never 3. Tbh most of the one stars weren't particularly outstanding. I've eaten at plenty of non-Michelin restaurants that deserved it more than the 1-stars I've eaten at

>> No.13112775

>>13112753
Yea, one down the road from me it's a bistro. They serve burgers, bacon and eggs. Not that expensive either, well it's not cheap but it's not as expensive as people make these places out to be.

I've eaten at Alinea in Chicago. It's good but not even remotely worth the price and unsurprisingly you don't get enough food to fill you up. Michelin star restaurants don't live up to the hype or the price imo.

Do tell, how pricey is a one star place? And did you have to reserve far in advance?

>> No.13113000

>>13112979
They really get up there but I suppose it depends on what you order. Dont go for a dinner of two unless you're ready to drop $300 for a cocktail, a bottle of wine and a couple appetizers and main courses. I guess it depends where you go tho. My recommendation is to either save it for a special occasion (I might go for birthdays/ anniversaries/when I'm on vacation) or find a less expensive place with equally good food.

Many Michelin star restaurants are outstanding, some are just okay and not worth it for the price, but they're all expensive.

Check if the place serves lunch. It's usually much cheaper. I did it when I was a student.

The Michelin guide also give out Bib Gourmand which are cheaper but still serves excellent food.

A two star while on vacation. The food was very good but not nearly the best I've eaten, the service was on a level unto itself. A restaurant near me was given a star recently, so I'm looking to go there too and see how the two of them compare..

ate at Pierre Gagnaire's 3 star in Paris with my gf about 10 years ago

ordered the tasting menu, and one course both of us thought was disgusting and we barely touched it. After the waiter took it back to the kitchen, he shortly brought out a totally new dish the chef had come up with. Rest of the meal was amongst the best i've had.

At the end of the meal, the chef came out. It was Gagnaire himself in charge that evening, he actually apologised for the course, we were very embarrassed.

I've also eaten at Robuchon in Macau twice, one meal was actually very disappointing. And Lecture Room Sketch in London which got it's 3rd star this year, incredible food.

The difference between 2 and 3 star restaurants is negligible in my opinion, but the gap between 1 and 2 is very noticeable
