Chicken of the woods thread 404'd so here's my supper last night. Wild harvested chicken of the woods, a day fresh duck egg, fried potatoes and a pile if veggies. Fucking delicious.

What did you have?

I had rice and lentils risotto with soy milk (roommate left it and I don't like wasting food), tons of garlic, onions, butter and lots of gouda cheese rinds cubed and a hot pesto with lots of chilies.
No picture, unfortunately.

Did you choose the light for taste or calories? I figured they all taste pretty similar so I always get the rich and hearty types for "best" value calorie wise.

Yeah the ones I found were a little buggy so I washed them off real well and sauteed in butter and a little water to keep them moist till fully cooked. Simple is the best way to prepare wild mushrooms in my opinion, it lets you really focus on their unique flavour.

>>13002050
It's called chicken of the woods because it has a very dense almost chickeny texture to it and a meaty flavour.

>>13002068
Are you implying that fried potatoes and fresh veggies aren't delicious? Lol

Grilled flap steaks, baked butternut squash (with oregano, salt, pepper, little olive oil, fair bit of butter and garlic), baked sprouts (olive oil, garlic, salt, pepper), mini potatoes cooked in good butter with fresh rosemary, fresh thyme, salt and pepper. Then a slooooow cooked onion/shallot gravy enriched with some red wine. Guests loved it.

I had leatherjacket fish fried Cantonese style. Lots of garlic, lots of ginger, spring onion, soy sauce, rice wine, sesame oil, typical asian ingredients. Fucking delicious.

>>12999894
At first I thought chicken of the woods was a chicken-like bird you killed and butchered.
