In Florida, it's illegal to buy liquor in stores that sell food (groceries). It's the dumbest law, because grocery stores just rent the nearest store front in the same shopping center and make it a Publix Liquor or Winn-Dixie Liquor.

Is there any scientific evidence behind the idea that different types of alcohol produce different levels of buzzes/are metabolized faster?

one thing I can say is that a byproduct of fermentation is something called "congeners". generally the rule is the darker the liquor the more it contains, and these contribute to hangover symptoms. brandy is a bad one. vodka will give lesser hangover symptoms just FYI
