If it were you, would the latter role be your dream? Would "support structure for bigger things" be the ideal for which you strived? Even if you were told your whole life that homemaking was a righteous purpose, would feeding, clothing, and cooking for someone else be entirely appealing to you? Would it look like a noble goal?

I'm asking honestly, because I am a woman, and I can't imagine being content with a life whose meaning is derived entirely from the actions and desires of other people. I like to cook. But it's the joy of creating something, climbing a skill ladder, surprising myself with new combinations and techniques that makes cooking appealing. I guess there're other elements of homemaking that provide that kind of challenge against skill, but I find that they're more limited than in the rest of the world.

Of course I understand that men live within hierarchy too, and every man works for a purpose higher than himself. Everybody's got a boss. But his work is still FOR himself. He controls the content of the work that he does in a way that is impossible in the context of homemaking. He has a certain freedom of choice that woman doesn't, in your scenario, have.
