Should I adopt free pet rabbits if my intention is to slaughter and eat them after getting them? I don't see anything wrong but it seems kinda dickish

>> No.12913360

i would breed the free rabbits and eat the offspring because you don't know the history of the ones you're picking up for free

I have about 100 rats and I've been looking up rat recipes lately.

they eat better than I do so I imagine they'd be pretty tasty.

You'll feel better if you hunt your own rabbits. It's not rocket science.

make that guinea pig dish that they eat in costa rica or wherever it is
>>12913530
this. by hunting wild rabbits, you're both eradicating a pest and getting a free dinner. if you get an adopted rabbit you're just eating some little girl's former pet, like a dick.

If I were to hunt rabbits I wouldn't use guns but I would chase them (with dogs) and strangle them with my hands

>> No.12913604

>>12913588
You'll remove them in the normal process of gutting and cooking them. Parasites generally reside in the intestines. Take them out, take out the parasites.

Do it. Even vegans do it, google "100 rabbits".

Waste of energy. You'd use more calories chasing the rabbits then you'd get from eating them. Just set some basic ass snares and check them once a day.

you can buy live meat rabbits pretty cheap, and they'll actually have meat on them.
pet rabbits are pretty slim

also consider the situation where the kid comes back from summer camp and their mom tries to buy the rabbit from you because she made a mistake and her kid won't stop yelling that she hates her
and then you have to explain while rubbing your tummy that the rabbit is already poop

>>12913649
i'd heavily recommend against snares in a non-survival situation
all sorts of animals including pet cats and skunks get caught in those because the only 'target' you have is based on where it's placed and perhaps some bait, but you're just as likely to get the torso of a squirrel as a rabbits neck

it's a bit more of an investment but a live trap you can sort of 'target' what you want to catch more easily by changing its door weight as well as of course the bait, and if you fail, you can just use a long stick to open the cage

>>12913657
dont worry they'll make more rabbits.

You could buy a pet rabbit and fatten it up

>>12914499
you'd still be better off not doing it unless it just happens to be a breed of giant, meat production is based around offspring and breeding rabbits in captivity is a lot of micromanagement

a single rabbit to fatten up would take a significant amount of time and effort for the pay off
a flemish giant like pic related is about twice the size of what are considered 'meat rabbits'
they've gotten some attention as pets because they're very docile, but I doubt free rabbits off craigslist will be these sorts, petshops wouldn't like to pay twice as much to feed their stock of 'easter bunnies'

so thats like livestock and theres nothing wrong with that

you gonna change your perspective of thinking so you wont feel guilty, these arent *pets*, they are *livestock*

Depends, will the original owner want to check up on them?

It's dickish. I love rabbit stew but I wouldn't eat a pet rabbit.

If they’re rabbits that have been raised as pets with lots of human contact and bonding then it sounds pretty cruel. Go out and hunt rabbit instead.

>> No.12914622

>>12913353
I think it's a little scummy bc they could've gone to a good home, but to be fair they probably wouldn't have. As long as you kill them cleanly and humanely it's fine.

If you tell the person giving them up for adoption that you plan to kill them, would they still give them to you?
