Welcome to the 'deenz thread fellow 'deenzers. Nothing like crackin' open my daily can of 'deenz after a long day at work

I don't post in these threads normally, but I love this shit, and learned it from my parents. Every roommate I've ever had has completely hated any time I open canned fish. What's the problem? Why do people hate it?

Because it smells bad when you're not the one eating it. It's like popcorn or Doritos.

You can eat them by themselves or get creative and serve them on crackers/toast with vinegar/capers/pickles/etc

The key word with deenz you wanna buy is 'brisling.' I recommend deenz in packed in olive oil or tomato sauce. Avoid deenz packed in vegetable oil. There are many delicious variations to choose from

On their own, sardines taste more like tuna in terms of non-fishiness

But yeah, seriously. Mustard is my favourite condiment for sardines, but that goes back to my grandmother. With a little cracked black pepper, sardines with mustard on toast is my favourite comfort food. They're great for breakfast, but it's also a good evening snack if you have a late lunch.

So we got wild planet, king Oscar, bumblebee, Kroger and chicken of the sea in descending cost and assuming quality as well. Should I just start with Kroger brand in olive oil as someone trying deenz for the first time? The king Oscar Mediterranean style looks interesting. The chicken of the sea ones (in water or a variety of sauces) don't seem appetizing, but just because I don't like the sauces choices. Perhaps CoS water will give me the purest first experience though. Thoughts?

Tons of omega 6 (polyunsaturated) fats. You need some omega 6 but if you have too much relative to your 3s you will fuck your heart up. Therefore you should minimize vegetable oil especially eating fish packed in a shitload of it. You will get more than enough omega 6 without even trying it’s so common. Get deenz in olive oil instead. It’s the perfect combo of mostly monounsaturated fat in the oil with omega 3 in the deenz.

>Get deenz in olive oil instead.
A common mistake. Compare sardines in water to sardines in canola oil or others, and there isn't much of a difference in the fats when drained.
Don't get me wrong, I've been known to suck the cans to drain them, but I know I'm a fucking weird asshole.

I dump the oil off the top, eat them, then drink what’s left or pour it on toast and eat that. I wouldn’t really call it “draining”.

>> No.12913104

You're not really supposed to just drain the can in the sink until it's dry, that's why the "drained" nutritional values are still a little high. Oils can be high in most fats, saturated and unsaturated, but it's less about how much you consume and more about what you do after you consume them.
Sardines, rich in not only protein but numerous vitamins, are healthier than cheap fats like processed cookies, or alternative meals such as lentils or soyabeans.

Always aim to balance your meals, and go overboard with a particular type of food, no matter how much you like it.
