Most people who meal prep fall into two categories, fitness people or busy people.

Fitness people literally do not care about much except that the meal fits their macros and is somewhat palatable- leading to meals like broccoli/chicken/rice for 7 days straight. Eating delicious meals fresh everyday is not a priority for these people, as their interests lie beyond that.

The busy people, whoever, typically have better meal preps and 2-3 different types of meals for the week. Can include things like pasta, salmon and rice, chili, etc that they'll make on sunday and then rotate throughout the week. Since these people usually have busy schedules combined with social lives, its hard to cook and pack a healthy lunch everyday. While they would like to eat delicious and fresh meals every day, they simply don't care enough to put the time/effort in and compromise with meal prepping. Usually just a lunch thing, and then going out to eat on the weekends.

Then you have the /ck/ poster, who is on a board specifically for people who prioritize the taste/quality of food, and naturally has a disdain for meal prepping. This makes sense, but its also stupid to think that every single other person in the world cares as much about having homemade chicken stock or fresh bread as you do. Everyone has their own interests. Half the people here are larpers and fast food posters anyway, which is why these threads keep showing up.

It's good that OP has so much free time every day to prepare freshly cooked meals three times a day! I suppose if I didn't have to work and earn my own living instead of suckling on mom's tit until my late 20's, I would also have that free time to have the same opinion as OP.

Sadly, I do have to pay my own rent and bills and make my own food plans and that usually does include meal prepping. I don't really have a set schedule or strict daily plan. I just make large quantities of things and put them in containers so that I have a choice to make when I prepare to leave in the morning.

I'll make a big pot of spaghetti and some mashed potatoes and pork chops, and some chicken thighs and salads and make lots of other smaller containers of fruit, pickles and condiments and shit and every day I figure out what sounds good for lunch and put it in my bag.

It's not routine. It changes up every week. There's no burn out from eating chicken breasts and broccoli every damn day.

If OP is against meal prep, then it's probably because he's not done it properly or been exposed to more creative ideas and thinking. You should give it another try, OP. Your imagination is your only limitation here.

Meal prep for the week sure then just make something different the next week. It's not that hard if you have even a modicum of ability and creativity.

Also, your concerns are invalidated by the simple use of large tall mason jars, or Pyrex type containers for your food (which are also more secure if you're carrying your food to work in a bag while biking or walking).

I usually bring two medium jars, one for second breakfast and one for lunch. Second breakfast is usually either cottage cheese and fruit or a light salad with goat cheese and fruit depending on whether I lifted that morning or not and need extra protein. Lunch is usually some sort of slow cooked meat from crockpot over rice with vegetables and some of the leftover broth or sauce I cooked the meat in. First breakfast I make fresh each day at home, dinner I make on Sundays for the work week and then make fresh on the weekends. It's very easy to have a lot of variety, quality, and nutrition this way.

I'm willing to be educated. Walk me through, minute by minute, how you would make three good tasting meals that don't repeat too frequently with just an hour of prep time per day.

And to the posters saying that it's pathetic to have to think about your time, I suggest two possibilities; either be conscientious with your time and be a poor wagey and use that extra time to work your way out of your status, or understand that to get to and maintain a higher status requires a sacrifice of time. Literally the only reason to not want to minimize your time spent prepping food is if you're low class and ok with that.

Not the guy you're replying to, but it's not that hard if you know your way around a kitchen and shop accordingly. Here's a pretty standard day for me:

Breakfast: Veggie and fruit smoothie, 5 minutes. Greens, carrot, tomato, avocado, 1-2 fruits, 1 serving of berries, eat with a couple of spoonfuls of nut butter. Could also be oatmeal (anything but steel cut is >10 minutes), grain-based cereal, toast and fruit, whatever.
Lunch: Quick soup with packaged udon, frozen shrimp (optional), peas, green onion, egg, and prepared broth/stock: 10 minutes tops. Could also be a sandwich, a wrap, a reheat of yesterday's dinner, etc.
Dinner: Grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, and a side vegetable: 30 minutes including prep + cook. Could be hamburger patties with a mushroom gravy, could be a pilaf, could be another soup or instapot stew, etc. SO many options.

leftovers in general are foul.
your obvious exceptions are shit like lasagna, pizza, take out, chili etc, or if you want to take some of last nights dinner into work the next day thats ok too.
whats not ok is spending half a day or more cooking one big meal to divvy up for the week. its really going against everything that people should strive for which is a varied diet of fresh ingredients.
Mealprepping is memetic faggotry perpetuated by mindless redditshitbags who are so fucking delusional they actually think its beneficial in some fucked up way, even though its:
>increasing the amount of bacterial growth
>increasing the chance of sickness

The best way to meat prep is to always cook two portions. Eat one portion and freeze the other, just for future convenience, just when you don't feel like cooking.
That way, in no time, you will have a week's worth of varied meals to eat.

I'll walk you through all my food-related activities from this Monday:

>breakfast
Omelette with diced peppers, onions, and cheese - 10 minutes
>dinner prep
Throw a venison shoulder in the crock pot with spices, lime juice, and stock - about 10 minutes if I'm being generous. Set it to low for 8 hours, go to work.
>lunch
A turkey sandwich with a peach and some nuts - about 5 minutes to assemble and pack
>dinner
Shred venison, sauté onions and peppers, grate some cheese, assemble tacos - 20 minutes tops.
>total
45 minutes of work, and I have venison left over to make burritos, quesadillas, etc for the rest of the week, cutting down subsequent food-related work for the following days while still allowing some variety in meals.

This is all true. I don't like the soyposter, but the fact of the matter is, meal prepping is disgusting and depressing.

There's a few exceptions, like if you work in a remote area in construction/whatever where fresher meals aren't available, are a complete poorfag, have restrictive allergies, or are super focused on fitness, but that's generally not your normal prepper.

If you sit in a job where you work 9-5 or whatever, and you sit at your desk to do more work while eating 3-5 day old food, you're a fucking disaster. And yeah, sure, I get it, you're "saving so much money," but you're also ignoring any of the pleasures of life while sitting under flourescent lightbulbs and watching your life dwindle away.

Then again, I rarely eat lunch and get the fuck out of the office whenever humanly possible.

Compared to what? the $1000 and 20 minutes you'd spend if you make it yourself?
Remember busy people value time by definition.
Also they tend to work a lot and therefore not be poor. At 80k a year the math is 1.25% of wage to save you 4% of a work day (1.38% of whole day) which is not bad value.
Not to mention spending more than that, getting better food than you can make your self and considering it part of the money you spend on quality of life.

Don't use the microwave, I started food prepping a few weeks ago for weight loss. Make sure you start with fresh ingredients, cook them just below what you would want them finished as. Seal them up quick and get them cold asap. Than when you are ready to eat get a nice hot pan with a bit of oil/butter and fry it up like you would fresh food. Except it only takes a few minutes, if it's dry throw in a bit of water or chicken/beef/fish broth/stock. This works so well and you don't get any of that terrible microwave texture.

Meal prep is great for some people, not so much for others. It's all about your lifestyle and available time. The same goes for the type of food.

I've got some chronic illness stuff going on, so cooking isn't always something i can do. having some curry or chili or other easily heated food frozen ahead of time is a godsend.
Of course fresh is going to be better, but pre-prepped food keeps me from either going hungry or eating trash fast food.
