Anyone else live in a roach infested shithole? I'm a student right now so I'm stuck in a shithole apartment with third world ingrate neighbors that don't understand basic hygiene, so the building has a massive, persistent roach infestation. I've taken as many precautions as I can and, while it has certainly reduced the problem in my unit, there's just no getting rid of it when my neighbors are this filthy and the building is so old.

Anyway, I have to keep everything sealed to avoid attracting extra roaches and to keep the ones in the cabinets off of my food. What kind of stuff should I be buying in this situation? Is it even possible to buy in bulk? Large sealed containers are pretty expensive for me with my poverty level wealth. I really wish I could go the bulk rice, beans, potatoes, etc route to reduce cost, but roaches would have a field day with that. My kitchen is also tiny as fuck, as is my freezer.

Not really sure what I'm looking for specifically. Just general kitchen stocking advice for living in roach hell.

Move to a new apartment. There is no such thing as being stuck in a home, especially in an apartment. Unless you broke your hip and can't find your life alert.

It's called financial means and also a lease. Even if I could break the lease, I'd both be fucking over my roommate, and wouldn't be able to find a better place I could afford anywhere in commute distance to school. Even if I magically got more money, I legitimately don't have the free time it would take to move with my course load.

Breaking a lease isn't that expensive. Would you seriously rather continue to pay to live with fucking cockroaches rather than lose a deposit and first month's rent? Make all the excuses you want, but that is just disgusting and wrong.

Losing an entire month's rent and the deposit would be a crippling blow to me. I'd actually have to drop out of school if that happened. I'm going to school on maxed out loans and a maxed out credit card by the end of the semester since loans aren't enough lmao. How do you feel about boric acid? My apartment currently looks like an episode of Supernatural with all the acid along corners and doorways. I also put some in my garbage can occasionally at night and sprinkled a thin layer all over the carpets, cabinets, everything. Also have some of this bait gel that's supposed to not kill them immediately so they can take it to the nest.

Anything I can do better? There's a bunch of tiny ones so I was thinking I should get growth inhibitor too, but that's money.

I need specifics on what you're dealing with. Boric acids are in most "high end" pesticides. Since this is /ck/ I'm going to stick with kitchen pest control like roaches and ants. I do occasionally do general pest control threads in /adv/ for fun but let's stay /ck/ related.

Also, I didn't fully read this post before I replied but please be careful with that stuff, let it dry before letting any humans or pets in the home, usually 4 hours to be safe. It'll also kill the shit out of your birds or reptiles if you keep those in the house as pets.

If he can't afford to buy a stack of plastic tubs with lids he sure as hell can't afford to move either, dumdum.
The process isn't free.

>>12873620
I guess in lieu of plastic boxes or Tupperware etc. you could put at least some of your dry goods inside big garbage bags and seal those with a twist tie or something. Some foods will spoil if you do that with them, though.

Have you tried talking to the landlord or even the other tenants? Get a coordinated effort going?
I know that's not easy, but apart from moving it's the only actual solution to the issue.

I thought it was just pure boric acid, honestly. It's hotshot boric acid powder. I read that it wasn't really harmful to anything but insects, and it's already been about 2 months and my cats not dead or sick yet.

>>12873752
The landlord had someone spray but it didn't help. These are Indians we're talking about. It's a lost cause. It doesn't help that the complex has a "trash valet" service where they pick up garbage from your front door every morning, which just encourages these idiots to leave piles of garbage outside their doors all day. They pick up at 8am, and they'll start piling garbage from 9am to the next morning.

Either the land lord takes care of it, or you move out. You live in a fucking apartment. No amount or individual pest control will eliminate them. I went through an extensive interview process to get into an artist's loft which was nothing special, but pest free and dirt cheap. I also rented a cheap house out with 3 other people. I also helped renovate a warehouse into a livable space with 4 other people. Of course those aren't the only options for decent cheap living. You need to find what works best for you, but that requires some fucking effort on your part.

You're one of them if you still haven't figured out that OP can't afford the one-shot cost of moving, fuckstick.
I'm sure your "artist's loft" was nice and cheap, but there was still an expense involved in moving there in the first place, right?
It's a classic case of how being poor can be more expensive; same as how buying in bulk is cheaper, but you need to have the money to food that initial expense.

>>12873756
That does sound like a lost cause. Wrap everything in plastic and start saving for a new place. You'll never get rid of the roaches even in your own little place anyway. Sorry.

You're talking about diotamacious earth I think. Works fine for ants, won't do much for roaches. I always suggest Advion's gel baits for casual kitchen pest control. We used it, works well and you don't have to leave your house or anything. Just dab some under drawers and such a couple times a month if you're in an apartment. In a house, 2 or 3 treatments over the course of a month will take them out. You don't just "get" German cockroaches like you would ants. They get brought in somehow, usually from Costco boxes and such.

If you consider $40 for a u-haul so much that it will break you financially, you are more fucked than the worst of those in Nigeria. As far as losing one month's rent and a deposit, that is money that has already been paid, which he will only get back at a later date, maybe. Again, shut the fuck up about costs. There is no significant cost to moving unless you want there to be for your own convenience, or the price that needs to be paid because you didn't do your due dilligence to make sure you weren't moving into an infested shithole to begin with, and you are not willing to demand the landlord take care of it. I don't know what state, or country, you live in but roach or bedbug infestations are likely to be a health code violation in your municipality. You have a legitimate cause to break your lease without repercussions if your landlord does not address the issue. Consider investigating your options at your county health office.

-add yolks to bowl, discard whites
-add roughly a quarter cup of boric acid and sugar
-mash together with a fork (do not eat off of this fork)

you should get a yellow putty. stick little balls of it behind your cabinets or wherever they frequent. keep it out of sight so you don't have to watch the disgusting fucks eat it and let them eat it. roaches eat their dead brethren so the ones have eaten the poison die and then their comrades die from their poisoned corpses. its the gift that keeps on giving.

it works. thank me later.

Are you in a house or apartment? Are the roaches really big, shiny and black or the tiny brownish greenish ones? If you're seeing dead roaches, that's always a good thing. But you shouldn't be seeing them for longer than a couple weeks. It's and infestation you have to kill, usually takes about a week and a half and you shouldn't be seeing any more live or dead after treatment.

First of all, it's the fact that you're in an old apartment dipshit. Not your neighbors.

Anyway, you need a trip to the hardware store to get:
One (1) tube of clear caulk
One (1) can of boric acid powder

Use the caulk to seal any holes/cracks/crevices where they may be coming from the walls. They can squeeze into the tiniest of spaces, so you're looking for areas like places where baseboards don't line up, where your AC register may be loose from the wall, etc. Then use follow the directions on the boric acid
