I do this on purpose because I think bread and butter is a better meal than pasta and tomato sauce, and I think lots of people do it subconsciously without realizing that spaghetti is actually not very good

Spaghetti is spaghetti. "Good" spaghetti is made with homemade noodles, sauce made from scratch, 2 to 3 different kinds of cheeses, meatballs, and some garlic bread on the side. Who the fuck has time for that? All that work just for spaghetti? Literally ANYTHING else is going to be the same. It doesn't matter if you use prego, or HUNTZ, or campbells, or whatever. It doesn't matter if you use golden grain, or store brand pasta. Spaghetti is just noodles and sauce, and it's meant to be cheap, easy to make, povvo food for people too lazy to cook.

Spaghetti, by nature, is a non-spectacular dish. It's one of the basic defaults for quick, cheap meals.

Totally agree with you OP, noodles and tomato sauce aren't very good. It's the very lowest of the low carb/condiment combinations (bread & butter, rice & soy sauce, oats & honey, corn & butter, etc). Spaghetti and sauce MUST have meat to become actually palatable.

Spaghetti is good if you make it the right way. I.e. not the way almost everybody makes it i.e. with waaaaay too much pasta sauce. It takes like you're eating tomato soup with noodles most of the time. This is wrong wrong wrong. You need a SMATTERING of sauce, and the sauce should be as fresh as possible with minimal additives like salt sugar or vinegar. It also needs copious olive oil. It should almost be more oil than sauce. And of course, the spaghetti itself must be just the right firmness.
