Let's talk about the American phenomenon of chinese buffets

>the American phenomenon

They're pretty ubiquitous across the developed world.

0/10 bait.

How trusty would hygiene expectations be in such places? Have read that undercooked crustaceans and frogs can be a vector for rat lung worm.
Places I've been to featured duck, crayfish, shrimp, fried frog legs, and one even has a pho soup booth/counter in the back.

It's pretty bad. The kitchens aren't even up to code because most Chinese immigrants who open up restaurants do their own construction work.

I always go for the pizza and the roast beef and crab legs and afterwards it's chocolate fountain time!

Some of them are unironically quite good. I once went to one that had sauteed baby octopus in garlic sauce. It was in the top 10 best things I've ever eaten.

>> No.12740577

You have to eat at 3-4 until you find one that isn't absolute fucking garbage and then you go with all your friends after playing basketball or something.

when I was a kid, there was a sweet chinese buffet about 5 miles away from my house along the main street in our town
it wasn't a very big buffet, just one long-ish line with trays on each side, but it had all the standard staples, and it was only $5! (and only a dollar extra for a soda); everyone in our family called it "Cheap Chinese"
we went there at least once a week for several years, it was so good
eventually the food quality started to slip; the fried rice had fewer and fewer vegetables in it, the potato slices were often not cooked all the way through, etc etc
strangely, they never raised the price; it was always 5 bucks
would have gladly paid an extra dollar or two if they would have upped the quality again

they eventually closed down and the owners sold the building, and now it's a shitty thai restaurant ;_;

USA? No.

>> No.12740774

It doesn’t thought. All the dishes are the same, but sometimes the cooks are just shitty. It just tastes very similar. The providers give the restaurants their ingredients, but sometimes the incompetent fucks mess it up for some reason. I had some shitty Chinese in Louisiana, just not good. They gave me free Asian meatballs that just weren’t good, but I still ate it because I was hungry. Compare that to my favorite local Chinese in North Carolina of all places, something about it is just so good. It’s a buffet with sushi and Chinese, I really enjoy it but the drive is a little too much for my car.

Also that coffee cake is the most based dessert. Pic related, right next to the almost as equally based cheesecake and fruit bar. Dunno why they decided to put salad and shrimp with tartar and cocktail next to the desserts though.

It's pretty easy. Get wonton skins, cream cheese, artificial crab meat, scallions, and an egg. The egg is to seal the wontons.

Mom worked at a Chinese restaurant once and I watched the chef make them.
