Is this coffee actually any good (and worth the money) or is it just a way to rip off soylentsexuals?

Buying ground coffee is a waste, especially 5 pounds of it.

Death wish coffee is a meme. If you want actual good coffee, try (expensive) third wave roasters online: Heart, Ruby, Verve, Counter Culture, Onyx are some names.

Just a meme. It's "okay" coffee at best.

Better coffee can be had from local roasters or even roasters from any state in the US that sells online. You'll get coffee roasted within the last few days instead of over a month ago.

No, it's absolutely garbage.
Their idea of a "bold" and "rich" coffee is a burnt roast, and they don't even roast to order, so you know that coffee is sitting pre-ground in a warehouse somewhere for a month before you get it, and by then whatever nuance of flavor might have been left behind is gone.

5lb bag. K. Do your math, that's $16/pound. Pound is 16 ounces (and by the way at the store(s), bags of coffee aren't all 16oz/1 lb bags anymore, but vary from 8 to 12ounces, whereas some are still 1lb, and the "large" bags of coffee can be like only 1.5 to 2lb bags, just fyi, that's gone on all over the groceries if you aren't like a Costco shopper. Anyway.... So, about $1/ounce. And, about 1 ounce of coffee in a coffee maker per brewed cup for like drip, maybe a bit more coarsely ground.

Is that worth it to you? It might be the most mediocre or most amazing coffee, if it is your preference. Notice there wasn't a choice of grind you could buy this (oddly enough just "ground" which isn't very professional). I wouldn't be buying 5lbs of any coffee in the world if I didn't know I already liked that coffee and that roast level and it was freshly ground for me. I wouldn't be buying already ground beans in bulk, either. But you know your consumption levels and say you intended to host a lot of people in your house for a weekend of houseguests, or a lot of roommates, you'd go through it pretty quickly, okay then.

Just to compare, Dunkin on their website sells 1lb bags, not at $16, but at $9, or 3 bags for $22, but will give you 30% off that as a subscription. At the store, the bags are only 12oz. Walmart's best price is .44/oz on the larger bag.

If you want to try to some good things, find a roaster locally and go sample some things. Or ask these people to sell you a smaller bag and sample it. I find the special reserve edition coffees to be just that, special. You can even go into Starbucks and sample them, and if you like it and don't own a grinder, get them to coarse grind some whole beans back into the bag. I often find delicious coffee at Target, finished my 3rd bag of the Ethiopian yirgacheffe.

It's just a meme coffee. Always buy whole bean. There are coffee review websites where you can find well priced coffees rated well over 90/100. Also you can use the drinktrade website to try out decent coffees that aren't standard grocery store/walmart brands. Anons have said it used to be only a subscription service, but I was able to buy bags without any subscription.

I pay about $10-12 per pound for organic whole beans in Dallas and I have a selection of like 50 to choose from as well as a choice on how it's ground. 5 lbs of ground coffee for $80 is a dumb buy.
