The point is never to actually decrease illegal immigrants in meaningful numbers. The real goal is to take away what little rights they have now so that they have zero recourse when business owners stiff their pay, turning them into modern day slaves. They want more illegal immigration. They also want the option to not pay them when they don't feel like it and threaten to call ICE on them if they try to quit job because of wage theft and/or dangerous working condition.

Neither party has any intention of actually securing the border (see how quick the Republicans passed corporate tax cuts but can't seem to move the border wall project along), and the American people are basically fucked.

A lot of work is covertly done by illegals yes. I had an encounter with that kind of exploitation some 15 years ago when I visited a greenhouse complex to inspect a packaging line. We got permission to film the machines which were manned by Polish workers but we wandered off a bit into the greenhouses proper. The picking of the produce was done by arab looking men who didn't speak a lick of English and who shied away from from us when they noticed the photo and video equipment. This also spooked the owners who took our personal info and implied serious violence if we dared to report them.

Later I had another random encounter when I was visiting a bungalow park during off season. The bungalows next to us housed a large number of Eastern Europeans who claimed their passports were being witheld by their handlers and they were made to work in a bread baking plant for next to nothing.
