I thought I was partying this weekend but everybody flaked on me, so I'm sitting on a couple crates of these.

I like whisky but I'm not very fond of any of the JWs really. I'm surprised Hitchens never moved on to a nicer brand after he got fairly wealthy.

I don't get why people laud Ardbeg for not colouring. The colour of the spirit is still hidden when the bottle is on a store shelf, and the fact that the spirit is so pale means you don't actually care about the colour.
Did you ever get scammed into thinking something golden was old or sherried when it wasn't? Do you think the chance of this happening is more likely than someone either considering a real whiskey fake due to colour inconsistency, or taking advantage of colour inconsistency to sell a fake?

No one pretends to fully appreciate a whiskey right through the bottle without tasiting, much less pouring the whiskey, unless that person is an idiot.
There's no premium being paid for that sole reason.
Morality does not go into this. It's a great whisky, and on top of that it's nice to know they don't colour it, it adds distinction and instills consumer trust.

We are not talking about appreciating whiskey we are talking about purchasing decisions. The colour has no impact on the whiskey's flavour, coloured or no. It may impact which bottle you choose to buy.

My main purchasing decision is either foreknowledge and after that experimentation. The colouring may not impact that choice, because as you yourself said, in a green bottle on a high shelf, i cant see it. I wont until i buy. I buy to find out, and after ive seen the colour I'll know how it tastes when it's in my mouth.
You appreciate a whiskey after you sample, not from a closed bottle. You just order it at a bar or buy a bottle. No one sits down at a bar and orders any whiskey that isnt brown.

I buy that particular whiskey because its good. On top of that i appreciate that they dont add colouring. It didnt factor into the purchase since this is information that is available after the fact.

I do enjoy that by not colouring it, you submit they are lying.

I'd say find a local bar with a decent selection of whisk(e)ys and have a couple different ones neat each time you visit. Take notes on what you like and what you don't. I accidentally aged a bottle of Kraken an extra ~4 years. It actually mellowed out a lot and the vanilla is much more forward now and the whole thing is actually smooth enough to sip just over some ice.

The cost is not determined by it's colour. It adds no cost. No one pays for a colour.
The very premise is erroneous, there's no need to engage it as fact.

The cost is determined by the colour, the bottle shape and the brands reputation. You'd have to be retarded to think taste is influences sales the most (outside it's secondary effect on reputation).
Spot the cheap uncoloured whiskey.

It's a tautology. You can't try before you buy.
Maybe a bottle shop is buying for you, or you're buying from a pub, but the fact that you choose what to drink without tasting it is self evident.
Unless you are asserting you can taste through the bottle at a store.

>oh but someone gave me a free dram
feel free to compare that to sales numbers

I stopped drinking, mostly! I used to drink alone every single night. In the last 3 weeks, I've had drinks 3 times, and two of them were just a single drink, and all of them were when I was out with a girl! And they were different girls! And I'm down 17lbs already - in three weeks!

Life is great. I'm drinking water tonight.

Unless you accidentally got a barrel to put it back in, you didn't age it.
Distilled spirits don't age in a bottle like wine. It tastes the same as it did 4 years ago.

How do I open this?
I was conned into tacking on a bottle of imitation glenfiddich (grant's 8 yr) when I bought some booze the other day and I can't figure out this bottle.
I unscrewed the screw cap, and this is what I see.
I've never seen this in a bottle before. Just a drip trickles out and that's it, no more. Do I have to puncture this shit? Or did it crack or malfunction or something when I first opened it?
How?

It's funky sipping straight, but it works exceptionally well when mixed with cola. They really should just sell premixed JD Honey and cola drinks, as JD honey by itself is worthless.

I can't find a lot of the shit I buy here so I mail order it. Shipping is typically flat rate, so expensive as shit for single bottles, but works out to like $4 per bottle if you buy multiple bottles, so I buy 3-4 at a time.

>> No.12633467

>>12633441
Also, if you live in a small town like I do, mail order might be best for the sake of freshness. I'd imagine a lot of small town bottles will have sat on shelves for years, sometimes at too high of a temperature and/or exposed to light because not in a box, aging poorly, their flavors weakening.
I typically order from giant-ass stores in Southern California which, I imagine, go through inventory a lot quicker than the stores around here do, and I haven't mail-ordered a bottle that's been fucked up by improper storage yet.
This is a serious thing to consider when dropping ~$100 or more on a bottle.
