It's not entirely their fault cuz Westerners gangbanged the culture pretty hard after ww2, but the food most Japanese people eat now is full of horrible fats, fried food, etc. When you mix that in with the high carb traditional diet you get something that's basically an Asian version of American Italian food (high fat+high carb/simple sugars). Diabetes has been a huge problem in Japan since the 90s and obesity continues to rise

It's ironic because the traditional Japanese diet is actually considered very healthy. It's still high carb but very low fat and small in portions with the majority of meat being lean fish and tons of fresh and fermented vegetables. Westernization+The post war economic boom and then the economic crisis in the 90s really did a number on the nips eating habits
