Is this a good deal? Just popped up on my Amazon and I'm interested. I don't own a decent knife yet so I'm wondering if this would be a good starter.

I can't speak for that specific knife, but what's important for me at least is how it feels/the weight/ etc. All knives can be sharpened, but the quality of steel matters. "Precision-forged" doesn't mean anything to me, but stainless steel is a good start I suppose.

Looks good although I'd recommend a chef's knife for a beginner. Santokus have a very short angle meaning you can't rock very well. The curve of a chef's knife allows to to rock the blade for chopping herbs and stuff.
