I've done an hour of research on how to thaw out frozen fish in the refrigerator and I still don't know if I'm doing it right. How can I do this properly without killing myself?

I removed the fish fillet from the vacuum-sealed packaging I bought it in, placed it on a plate, covered it in plastic wrap and placed it by itself at the very bottom of the fridge. I then turned down my fridge temperature to make sure it doesn't go above 38°F/5°C. Does covering the plate in plastic wrap like I did deprive the spores of oxygen and cause them to create botulism? Everywhere I look, even the FDA, just says to "thaw overnight in fridge" without any further detail. Please help, I do not want to contaminate all the food in my fridge.

They're swai fillets if anyone's curious. I'm just going to bake them in teriyaki sauce.

I simply keep it in the package and put it in cold water for like 15 min.

Most of the research I've done has led me to this method of thawing. I understand that it's faster, but I'm not going to waste all that water. Plus, I would rather place the frozen fish in my fridge at night and cook it up immediately the next morning without any extra steps. I'm still searching the internet frantically for details on how to do this and I've come up with nothing.

If anyone has experience thawing out fish in their fridge, please share.

https://www.aboutseafood.com/resource/thawing/
>Plan at least a day ahead if you choose to defrost in the refrigerator. It will take about 24 hours to defrost a bulky frozen item, or several pieces of food that have been frozen together. Place frozen seafood in a clean container to catch the liquid released from the product as it thaws. If the frozen seafood is not already wrapped in plastic, cover the top lightly with plastic wrap to protect it from coming in to contact with other foods in the refrigerator. Place the container on a low shelf and defrost slowly over a day. After thawing, remove any liquid that has collected in the packaging and use within a day for optimal freshness and safety.

Good information from the FDA about thawing seafood in general if anyone is interested:

California. Either I use the water from the tap that's contaminated with radon or I go buy it from the store where it's $1 a gallon.

I dunno what in the actual fuck I am reading in this thread. Thaw fish in cold water through plastic or naked. When you go to cook it, dry it off. Swai is a common waste water fish raised in china, raised in human shit. Don't eat that if it is from China. Not complicated.

If we could get more shit to move out of there, I'd be more than willing to say drop some fucking hydrogen bombs along the coast. There's plenty of room for shipyards, dry docks, etc further north along the west coast and I'm goddamned tired of that failure of a state throwing it's weight around trying to get federal laws passed like the rest of the country is a suburb of San Fransisco. Chicago does the same shit, I don't need new fishing tackle everytime you guys get bored.

easiest way to thaw is to place the fish overnight, skin side down, on that tinfoil hat you’re wearing, keeping it covered so the contrails don’t contaminate it
