OK serious talk here ck.

Is Detroit style really a thing in Detroit?

I live about 3 hour drive away, if I go to Detroit for some, I dunno car or socialist convention can I just pop into any pizza place and get a pizza made in an old oil pan?

It's the spicy pepperoni option, they have it and regular kind, the spicy one is cuppy.
>>12450178
Typical pepperoni in the US is very mildly spicy, yes. Which is why it's nice when places have a spicy option.
>>12450340
Yes, Jet's is probably the best option for a common chain, but if you want a decent sit down place Buddy's or Cloverleaf are good options. Honestly you probably don't have to drive all the way to the city, they have places in the suburbs and shit too spread out.

>> No.12450384

I hate places that have floppy pepperoni, if you can't do crispy pepperoni like the pic in OP kill yourself

We actually use pretty expensive cheese. Two trucks a week come in and on Mondays we spend like $2.5k on cheese
>>12450156
It depends what you order, certain things are overpriced but if you get a normal pizza with 1/2 toppings it's a fine deal. Deep dish duo and lunch combo slices are great deals. People bitch because we don't offer a $5 large like little caesar's. Sometimes I cringe though telling people the price and hope they don't complain
>>12450360
Jet's is better than Buddy's desu, you're best going downtown to independent places. I've had multiple customers tell me they stopped going to Buddy's and I tried it again later and I gotta say I agree it's not as flavorful.

The cheese was the first thing I noticed about the pizza and how good it was. The sauce is nothing to write home about but the cheese is amazing and imo more important. The bottom is so saturated in oil. It's like pizza hut pan pizzas used to taste but dare I say a little better?

We got it once though and it was a little burnt and tasted off. Any idea what happened? Does the quality vary depending on who is working that day?

How many jets locations are there? I never heard of it until I moved to Brookline pbgh area

it started in michigan so it's mostly a northeast thing, but it spread south recently as far as florida. the sauce is just decent i agree, it's a premade spice packet mixed with premade tomato sauce but it's jet's brand original recipe at least.
i also agree it's too greasy, we pour a big scoop of oil into the deep dish pans and if you add pepperoni it gets greasy as fuck even when prep is done properly. i can't eat it that often even though i get it free.
idk about your burnt experience but the deep dish crust is always crispy on the edge and a bit blackened, it does depend on who is there but it goes through a conveyor belt oven so whoever was there would've had to decide to push your pizza back which we do with lots of toppings.

Detroit pizza looks really really delicious. Dat crust. What a shame Detroit is supposed to be a bit of a dump. Is it really that bad?

>> No.12451014

>>12450985
it's pretty fucking bad; abandoned buildings everywhere and cops won't show up for hours if you report a murder. homeless people will harass you for cash if you spend enough time downtown. still go there pretty often for concerts, you likely won't be held up or whatever if you mind your own business. not that different from some other major cities. less psychobabble than new yorkers have to deal with

Detroit, or at least the parts where people go to, isn’t bad at all. It’s dramatically better than what it was 10 years ago, night and day. The bigger issue is that it’s just another midwestern city with no great reasons for outsiders to visit

Deep rise crusts slathered in olive are the key to life. I learned how to do them in the 80s at a two-store beerhall chain and have my own 'deep dish' perfected after 30 years.

But Jet's life. $5 2-slice lunch deal, they put a proper amount of GOOD cheese on it, so cash

The oil is the secret tho

It's the ruination of cooking by cooking shows and 'artisan' restaurants.
It used to be if you had more than 1/2" of crust edge people would complain.
Now half the pizza joints on TripleD feature 3" of bare, dry crust, 3 plops of raw mozzarella, and 3 basil leaves
>oh look my $42 artisan pie!
I want to firebomb memepizzas. There is NOPLACE in the west that can do pizza, which is why you should steer clear of California 'Pizza'.

The choosing of the Pizza topping is a very important part of the Pizza making, next time op should use a less greasy cheese if you go for meat topping like salami. Then again I am not american so this much grease may be found in every murican meal.
