the pan literally says portland on it, you already know everything about who makes this pan and who would buy this pan. bet that they have multiple wooden bowties.
the new meme seems to be the cast iron is the only way to cook a steak, as you apparently bake the steak for a few minutes then fry it for a second in a cast iron skillet and thats supposedly the hot new meme.

For me it was what I was raised with and am used to cooking with. Most families in my part of the South have a skillet that was passed down through the family. I like using it for stuff that goes from the stove to the oven for finishing like shepards pie and cobbler. I can also get it up to high temperatures to make tortillas on the stove with no problems. It's retarded to pay that much for one though, you can get a shitty rusted one from a thrift store and restore it easily. People are autistic about taking care of them too, you can wash them by hand with soap just fine and any mistakes you make can be fixed by reseasoning.

Spouts are appreciated, but I can imagine only a few ocassions in which i would need it on cast iron. Much less the need for 6 spouts on a pan. Cast iron is not an ideal sauce pan to begin with but you can make some. I dont need spouts around the whole rim st every 45° though.

Ignoring the meme pan in OP, cast iron is generally cheap and furablry, and can handle a TON of heat. The coating can be easily restored, so you don't need to worry about treating it like a special little girl (like Teflon). It holds heat well, and can compensate for shitty stoves.
All that makes for a good pan for poor batchelors. More expensive steel or copper-clad pans can do a better job, and 'just werks', but for $15 and some annoying cleaning procedures you can have a versatile good-enough pan that can withstand some serious abuse and neglect.

I'm not at the point with steaks where I can confidently judge doneness by pinching with my tongs, so anything that allows me to use my oven thermometer is gonna be easier by default.

Besides, charcoal isn't the only way to impart flavor. If I had the choice between a charcoal cooked steak, or a marinaded stead with a sauce, the latter will usually be better.

I don't understand anymore. Is this some weird ass shilling campaign or one autistic anon hating on that particular brand.

It's an autistic anon trying to force this meme by spamming it in every thread. Brought to you by the same people that spam soyboys and wojacks everywhere. Woe unto those who like things they don't.

Cast iron is honestly such a bitch. I tried using it a few times, it was so heavy to use and you had to clean it in a special way. I just gave it to my cousin

I clean my skillets when they are hot with just a small amount of water to boil off the gunk (not so much that would cracking the iron obviously) and pour that out, as well as draining excess oil now and then. Mine cost $15 (£12) 7 years ago from Amazon, the shipping to EU cost around the same as the pan itself so I got two, a griddle and flat one to see which one I would end up using the most. Turns out I use them both, often simultaneously in the oven. r8 mine, they are 7 years old now and I seasoned them all over initially in the yard with sunflower oil and a big ass propane blowtorch/weed burner. Over the years its built up, I don’t see any benefit for an overpriced artisan skillet other than the prestige of handing such a unique looking pan down to someone in the family.

this. mom gave me a couple of her skillets when I got married, one of them she had gotten from her mom when she was married. they aren't mysterious or complicated, they're simply what my family has always used. I bought a few wagner's from academy back when wagner was still in business, and still use them all. my wife's family always used teflon, she didn't understand why I used cast iron until we got a house with a gas stove, now she uses my cast iron like she was born to it.

maybe I'm doing something wrong. But I rub flax oil all over and throw it in the oven @ 400F for 30 min. Doesn't smoke up the house but comes out fine. Isn't the point to get it hotter than the smoking point of the oil, hence flax oil is recommended for it's low smoke point?

they let you bake bread over a fire

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ksyivTxZzw

so if camping somewhere for a longer time, they're very useful, even if you have to carry it in, it means you can easily feed yourself for a long time with just flour and yeast.

just generally useful for cooking on a fire. Although if you're doing car camping and want to do something impressive, building up a multi-zone ember bed and having a grill grate and grilling things is more impressive and fun than making a stew or whatever which doesn't really offer any advantage in taste to just doing it at home on the stove or over a gas burner.

I have no idea what got me to order a cast iron pan, it was roughly 15yrs ago though. I vaguely remember teflon flaking off my pans and throwing them out, then wondering if there was something better out there that won't make me sterile and a tard.
>>12422327
Yea, all that heat retention, you can even stir fry like the chinks and not need 150,000btu jet engines for burners on your stove.

Now it's time to buy her a pressure cooker, either a Kuhn Rikon or a Fissler brand, actually buy 2 pressure cookers, an 8l stockpot and 6l regular type pot, then you need to buy one of them high end Japanese rice cookers. This will reinforce women should be cooking on an almost daily basis for their man, and if she gives any back talk, put on an angry look and whisper through your teeth that you paid over $1,000+ for cooking equipment and you can't believe the nerve of her complaining and talking back.

So what? It's a legitimate technique, why get triggered by it's popularity and carpetbomb the board? Mindless contrarianism is as much tied to fashion and faggotry as mindless consumerism, only you follow fashion in order to reject it.

The faggotry is about the same though.
