Is beer can chicken a meme? Seems like a shitty way to cook a chicken.

You shove a half empty beer can into a chicken and BBQ it upright. It's supposed to steam the chicken from the inside.

Yeah. It doesn't really do anything beneficial, but people convince each other it does and like the idea of it because it's a can of beer and that seems masculine.

Why don’t you just try it fag can’t cost more than 10 bucks.

Total meme, drumsticks and wings get too crisp by the time the rest of the bird is done

>> No.12388791

Yes, it is. Dumbasses that don't know how to cook love stupid gimmicks like this.

>> No.12388920

>>12387240
It would make more sense to marinate the bird in beer and then roast it. Or baste it with beer. Or pot roast it in beer.

I want to see someone try butterflying a chicken, then filling the tray under it with half a can of beer. Strictly speaking the effect should be similar, though I think most of the change will be to the gravy.
Beer Can Chicken is probably better than some techniques because the chicken is held upright, ensuring the chicken doesn't sit in its own drippings and the whole exterior gets crispy.

>> No.12388924

>>12387240
It was probably done to keep the chicken standing up so the skin would crisp evenly instead of getting a soggy bottom. But I don't think the beer actually does anything.

>> No.12389034

>>12387240
It's fine. It's the type of thing a 25 year old bachelor with a job at the bank would make to impress his buddies. It isn't as juicy as a brined chicken but the uprightness lets all the skin get crispy and I imagine that is the real secret

>> No.12389045

>>12387240
Yep it's a meme for people who can't actually cook well.

Tried it once at a restaurant. It was the driest and most bland chicken I ever ate. This is prob a terrible way to cook chicken

great way to cook a chicken
use an empty beer can with water if you want
what's in the an does not affet taste and Ive used 3 different beers, ginger ale, garlic cloves in the can.

chicken is moist and tasty.
better if you put some garlic cloves under the skin

Tried this slow cooked in a wood fire pizza oven. It's not that great. Local charcoal chicken is better. Best chicken is slow cooked in a camp fire oven stuff with onions.

I remember reading where someone (maybe serious eats?) tested this using beer, water and no liquid and they came out with the same taste and texture. So yeah, it's a meme.

>> No.12390482

Bobby Flay says it's not a meme but you have to put a hole in the side of the can too. Also pour a bunch of rub inside the can before shoving it in the bird.
I realize you guys are all better chefs than him though.
