I honestly can't tell you why they've gone up so much, but they certainly have gone up. That said, the memes are extreme and I think they probably are using examples from places way up north or something where shit is obviously super expensive to begin with. Here in Ontario (about two hours from Toronto to be more specific) I can go get groceries about every ten days or so and get stuff like ground beef, milk, fresh veggies/fruit I like the most (asparagus, bell peppers, etc.) and almost always spend less than $80ish.
