Version: 2019-2-1

•Coffee (2 cups/16oz; 0f fat; 4.8cal)
•Brown Cane Sugar/Turbinado (3TB) [0g fat; 135cal]
•Powdered Pink Himalayan Salt (several dashes) [0g fat; 0cal]
•Ceylon Cinnamon (1/2tsp) [0g fat; 1.58cal]
•Butter (1TB) [11g fat; 100cal]
•Cocoa (1tsp) [0.16g fat; 2cal]

Use a 2-cup mug.

Add dry ingredients and mix them well.
Add butter.
Fill mug halfway with coffee
Stir until butter is melted
Fill mug up with coffee; stir occasionally to prevent settling.

This is meant to be a substitute for a real breakfast.

Total: 11.16g fat; 243.38cal

Notes:
•After a couple years, this recipe is still the best recipe thus far. (original 2017-5-1)
•Cinnamon and cocoa podwer dregs collect on the bottom if not stirred occasinally.
•This works well with plain coffee, hazelnut coffee, and French vanilla coffee.

It's okay as long as the dose is kept small, although it's still good to go a while without it too. Like 25-50mg should be enough for at least a few hours, but lots of people are having 150mg multiple times per day which just makes for a bad crash and taking more to stave it off.

Tasteless barista anon here,
Drip coffee and French press need two totally different grind consistencies due to their brew methods, drip is water poured over grinds while French press is left to brew over time with no interactions from you. If your drip is bad and press is good, you need to make the grind a bit finer for drip, you want a higher surface area to extract your coffee from.

On that note I want to highly encourage you to get a hand grinder. You cover the entire spectrum of grinds at high consistency with $200, for refence an electric grinder with that capability will run you 2-3x that. On the baratza you can buy refurbished from their site for $30 cheaper, and can purchase another burrset used in their virtuoso line To upgrade it. Ultimately as long as you're grinding fresh and you're happy with the end product that's all that matters, just telling you from my experience what I think makes the most sense for getting the most out of your purchase.

Most people overestimate how much caffeine they really need, or build up a tolerance and don't realize it's actually making them more tired by constantly giving caffeine crashes. A study showed 25mg of caffeine was enough to get some benefit, which is 1/4 of a normal cup of coffee.

>> No.12318671

>>12318663
I do intentionally refrain from having coffee when I'm not working, and only have on average less than 1.5 cups a day when I am working, in order to avoid building up a tolerance. But I can say with confidence that having 1/4 cup of coffee wouldn't work at all, because even caffeine aside, the cup of coffee itself is part of the energizing routine. Maybe if good decaf existed, there'd be a solution.

i've binned the seal and thoroughly cleaned the rest of it but the bottom half still smells of burnt rubber. a replacement seal costs half what i paid for the whole pot and i don't think you can get a replacement bottom half.

Brew came out oddly sour for some reason this morning. Added a big pinch of salt and that fixed it luckily.

>>12316827
It really depends to be honest. I have had preground that tasted ok. I have also grounded a weeks worth of luckys brand coffee and not noticed a significant taste decline over time. I have preground a weeks worth of coffee from drinktrade, and noticed a taste decline day after day. It all comes down to how well something was preground and freezes, quality of the beans, chemical makeup, ect.

Can you get a decent cup of coffee from preground? Yes. Are you going to vet a nuanced most flavorful cup from preground? No. If your poor like me you can preground 3-5 days worth of coffee at the store.

This is true, it is always best to keep coffee in an air tight container before you decide to grind it and after it's ground(I don't grind beforehand).
I would personally recommend that you invest in a hand grinder and grind it fresh, however some people, for whatever reason can't/won't grind their own coffee.
Getting it ground for your machine is making the best of a bad situation.
Your coffee will always taste better when it's only a few days since it was roasted and freshly ground.

I fucking love flavored coffee. I always get praline and cream flavored coffee from my local shop and it takes miles ahead of any natural bean I've tasted, even though I know it's just regular nondescript medium-roast mixed with flavored syrup.

Look man no one cares if you actually like coffee or not so what's the point in seeking validation in a thread like this? You're addicted to sugar and fat, why do you think Starbucks is so popular? You appreciate coffee on its own when you take the time to pay attention to its flavors and realize it's not going to be as intense as some sugar infused concentrate, but more subtle and it takes time for your taste to become sensitive to these. However, if you're always expecting a super hit of sugar and fat then your brain will find everything dull in comparison.

If it's auto volumetric like that machine I would say you have it easy, it pretty much does all the work for you besides steaming. My biggest piece of advice is to learn the anatomy of a shot. This means pay attention to the shot timer and when it's starting to turn blonde, and make sure you taste your shots - get an idea of what an under and overextracted shot tastes like. This will help you out because your shots will change through the day with the atmosphere and you'll start to learn how to make adjustments on the fly to account for it.

Okay guys I need help. I bought a used moka pot, brought it home, cleaned it up, replaced the rubber seal and the filter underneath it, brew few cups before actually drinking it. Now, everything was working fine for 4 days, until today suddenly the moka pot shoots steam from the top and after that it squirts a small amount of this brown sludge out. I tried it without any grounds and it worked fine: The water slowly came out from the top in a continuous stream. I've been using the same grounds the whole time. What do?

I can't really give you any more info than that. Just from my own experience as it warms/cools through the day or gets more/less humid, shots start to pull differently. Therefore it's very helpful to learn how to identify when your grind needs to be adjusted to compensate, it's all part of getting dialed in to your shots

It makes you feel any better, I think I’ve spent almost $250 on this app since I’ve downloaded it a year ago.
I’ve only won 6 things in total. The coffee pot, a pikachu mug, a ditto plush, and three Disney Q-posket figures.

Based on how much these products sell for online, I’ve probably won around $175-$200 worth in items. I have a lot of guilt though considering I probably could’ve bought the items instead of blowing money trying to win them. I try to rationalize it by thinking the amount of money I spent was for all the items I’ve tried to win, not just the ones I’ve won.

The coffee pot I won goes for at least $30-$45 online. Whether people are actually buying it for that price though, I have no idea.

Two cracks instead of one (eg French roast)
>As coffee roasts get "darker", the color of the coffee beans darkens and more coffee oils appear on the surface. In keeping with these characteristics, French roast coffee beans are dark brown and shimmering with oil.
>French roast beans are also at the end of what's called the "second crack." This means they are cooked with such intensity that they make two cracking noises during the roasting:

Alright lads. Coffee drinker of many years here. Recently I've taken to drinking instant (because cleaning out my French press every time I want a coffee is too much effort), decaf (because caffeine is making me piss too much), black (watching the old weight), with sweetener (been doing this for years, not just due to weight-watching but general unhealthiness of sugar).
