It’s dope, my mom used to make sloppy joes a couple times a month when I was a kid. I always looked forward to sloppy joe night. If you buy premade sloppy joes from a can or a tub you’re getting the absolute worst sloppy joe available. You have to make it fresh from good quality ground beef.

>1lb lean ground beef
>1 small sweet onion, diced
>1 green bell pepper, diced
>2 cloves garlic, pressed
>1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard
>1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
>1 can of tomato paste
>1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
>1 can plain tomato sauce
>1 tablespoon rolled oats
>salt, pepper, and oregano to taste
>optional: 1 pod of star anise

Brown the ground beef in a large sauce pan on high heat. Get the edges nice and crispy. Drain the fat, reduce heat to low, add all remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, serve on toasted buns. Fish out the star anise before serving if you used it. I like the way it tastes with beef but I know some people don’t like anise.

Isn't a sloppy Joe just ground beef and bolognese sauce on a burger?

>> No.12263140

>>12258659
Kind of like meatloaf, I will not eat a sloppy joe ordered out in a restaurant, just too much can be scary, not even in Key West.

I used to only make it from time to time because it can be made from previously frozen ground beef, and crumbled up, and fulfill the hamburger craving without needing to pat out some patties. But, I did attempt to make them from scratch a few times when I wanted to do it right.

I butter toasted insides of soft bun. I used soft french rolls (publix).
Coarse ground sirloin, drained all rendered fat, sauteed with diced green bell pepper, red onion, minced red jalapeno, pressed garlic. Stir in a couple of shakes of Heinz chili sauce, shakes of worchestershire sauce, dry mustard powder and my secret ingredients...tsp minced pickled cherry peppers (Cento Hot Pepper Relish) and Tbsp of hot mango chutney for sweetness, any chunky bits minced further.

I found a recipe that suggested sharp cheddar and fritos on top of the meat, sandwiched in the bun....and it was great, actually.

Oh, I wish it was bolognese sauce. Most recipes are sugary sauce and there's even premade sauces, think closer to American ketchup than actual ketchup and added to a sauce. Sloppy joes are disgusting sweet shit.
