"commit a mistake" is acceptable English, and even if it weren't you'd be a bit of an ass for correcting it. It's not Picard's first language.

Part 1/2

My grandpa and grandma raised me after my mom overdosed when I was four. The family was pretty messed up, but my grandpa tried to take care of all of us as best he could considering he had six kids.

He worked his ass off damn near every day, but he really enjoyed serving food to people. You know how everyone has something that they just really enjoy doing for other people? Or something that they like to be praised for? Well he absolutely loved to take care of us with food.

Maybe it's because he grew up right after the depression, and his parents instilled it in him, but he hated to have the cupboards bare, and it didn't matter how tired he was after work, if you told him you were hungry then by God he made sure you had something to eat.

Well, getting around to the point of my story. As grandpa's usually do, he had a few recipes that he perfected over the years. Nothing Chef worthy, but just good home cooking. One of those was his fried chicken.

He barely used more than salt, pepper, and flour, but my God if it didn't always come out tasting so fucking good I would stuff myself until I got sick. And he always made a side of gravy from the grease, and mashed potatoes from real boiled russet potatoes.

...

After he died, I didn't eat fried chicken much. The occasional stop at KFC, but of course, that stuff is never the same.

Well, about two years back I would up working a job for some of my family, and one of my uncle's happened to be helping out two. We all took turns making dinner, and when it came his turn, he asked what we wanted. We all voted on fried chicken.

I wasn't expecting much. The man was a major alcoholic-hough I loved him, and I thought maybe he'll fry up a couple breasts.

Well when dinner was served, everyone came in and got their share, then took their plates out to work with them. I decided to stay at the table and eat with my uncle.

Part 2/2

The food looked delicious-fried drumsticks, mashed potatoes, and real gravy, and I dug in like a starving animal.

My uncle was sitting across from me at the table, and we were both just enjoying our meal.

After starting in on the third stick, and scarfing down about half my mashed potatoes, I looked up at my uncle with a big old smile and told him how delicious the food was. I told him that it reminded me of home, and that I hadn't had fried chicken like that since-

I stopped. I was so happy and rambling, but the memory choked my throat.

My uncle didn't even miss a beat. He finished the sentence for me with:

"Since Dad passed away."

I couldn't talk, so I forced myself to nod "yes". We both got choked up and finished our meal with tears running down our faces, and enjoying every bite.

That was probably the most bitter sweet memory I have of food. It hurt, but I still treasure it a lot because, up until that point, I had never really bonded with that uncle.

Sad part is, after I left that job, I knew that was probably the last time I would ever get to taste that chicken. That uncle was drinking himself into the ground, and I live six hours away now.

At least I have the memory.

But..why does it bother you?

That's why I was wondering if this was the new banana, but apparently this legitimately annoys people?

I mean I don't see anything wrong with it. Maybe if 4chan let you make a normal paragraph instead of having to skip a line to start a new one, it wouldn't read so awkward?

Confirmed for retarded and genZ reddit. Holy shit this is either platinum tier trolling or braindamaged as fuck.
