With moka pots you want coffee that is ground inbetween drip and espresso; fine ground. To corse you get shit flavor, too fine water doesn't filter right. The store I go to has self serivce commercial grinders with every coffee type setting from French press to Turkish. Granted coffee has the clean fresh taste the first day or two, but the flavor doesn't diminish near enough to warrant a grinder. When I take the French press pill I will get a good grinder.

Aeropress seems like a beanmeme that's for people that don't want to nail down their pour over technique. You'll probably have to adjust grind size, water temp, and possibly pour technique if you want to get the best cups from the v.60, but thats only if you want to be a nitpicky fuck. Otherwise, even mediocre "beginner" use of v.60 will be fine if you're used to perc or a french press. Just get your grind size down and you'll be golden.

I'm not gonna pretend like I'm a sommelier but yeah avoiding shit that damages your smell/tongue helps keep them working well. To taste better you need to develop a palate, which ultimately comes down to trying as many different kinds of coffee as possible, try really high end shit and then compare the differences you notice to lower grade stuff and everything in between. Be mindful and attentive to what you're tasting, try to think of what it reminds you of and read the tasting notes to see if you agree with any of it. What you're doing is developing a frame of reference, and it starts to become automatic. Slow down and appreciate every sip.

I'm in Vancouver, so it's not too hot and not too cold. Most chain stores like JJbean and other bean around the world's try to go for the "cosy" vibe. But most specialty coffee shops like Timbertrain, revolver, nemisis and Milano downtown aim for either an industrial or a sleek and modern look.
Pic related, Timbertrain coffee.
Our owner wants more of a specialty coffee vibe which is nice, I get to ensure that I'm serving the best coffee possible and not coffee as fast as I can make it.
If you want you could just go to a slightly more up market coffee shop and ask for a latte, flat white and a cortado, compare the difference. It's a great place to start when trying figuring out how different times affect your overall drink

You technically CAN grind your coffee in a blender but you lose almost all control over your grind consistency which isn't good. If you want to try it out, start with a small amount. Just be sure to give yourr blender a clean afterwards as coffee is oily.

The espresso wasn't hot, just really warm with a very thin crema. Our espresso is roaster to order so always has a big crema because it doesn't have a chance to de-gas, but hey I don't mind because I know it's super fresh. It didn't really smell like coffee either.
First sip, wasn't too intense, tasted mostly of dark chocolate

You can also use pressure profiling for the exact same thing. Flow profiling is just pressure profiling with a valve. P=FA. It doesn't matter if you pump 9bar and stick a valve in to limit the flow, or run the pump weaker to reach that same flow. It's fundamentally exactly the same in the group. Depends on the pump. Decent manages it with a dual pump system, gear pumps can do it pretty well, etc. Even then, Slayer doesn't take advantage of the valve in a way to allow for bloomed espresso, flow rate profiling (god I hate trying to talk about flow RATE profiling since it's always mixed up with Slayer's flow profiling) during the shot, etc. It's a neat gimmick for preinfusion, and innovative at the time, but they've fallen way behind.

Scratch "home" man. Thing can do twice as much as a $10k Synesso, can do the role of a Poursteady or SP9 but better, and multiple DE1CAFEs (say two dedicated for espresso and two for automated pourover, but all with the ability to switch) vs one two group and one poursteady gives a lot of backup if one machine breaks down.

I would say it needs some time before you can really say it's cafe ready. I don't think it's really been stress tested enough in high volume for several years to compare to LM. Plus the fact that you can't steam while pulling but that is a very minor complaint. In terms of functionality and output it can't be touched, but who knows how well it can stand up to extreme stress?

The DE1CAFE model can steam and pull at the same time. And honestly if you're trying to be up on tech enough to be using one, get a fucking Übermilk too.

am I going to be made fun of for bashing beans with a hammer and just throwing them into a pot of boiling water. Not a poorfag, just not interested in spending the money on a coffee maker when this bean juice tastes good as is.

No it can't. Again I go back to the fact it might not be suited for high volume places if you plan on using all the fancy profiles, just the way it controls the pump must put on a lot of extra wear I'd imagine

Can't imagine buying a machine for cold brew. All I know is when I decide to cold brew I'm getting one of those $15 Mason jar kits and calling it a day.

That's not what I meant. Get the word espresso out of your head related to moka; it's a misnomer. Without going into details common optimized moka brewing is to take the pot off the heat and run cold water on it to stop the brewing. This is done when the brew streaming out turns light and watery, since the last part of the brewing process adds bitterness. That means you end up left with 1/3 - 1/4 water left over unused.

So if you apply that to a one cup pot your left with a thimble. 3 cup pot your left with an extra large double shot. Do what you want, but I strongly suggest 3cup for better taste, more coffee to use, and flexibility in being able to make faux espresso drinks. Remember: moka is not espresso.

It can. You need to be following their Instagram and Rao's Instagram for news on it. The DE1, DE1PRO, and DE1XL can not. The upcoming DE1CAFE can.

Thanks anon. So you say it doesn't make real espresso even though there is an option for it on the machine. It makes a moka concoction instead? Im a black coffee drinker the espresso and mokas are not my strong areas.

What moka are you looking at? Do you mean the ones that try to make more crema?

Weird. I googled it to make sure I wasn't lying and that's what it said on their website, but on another page it says it can. What the hell is the XL?

>> No.12272064

>>12271443
XL mostly just hides wires in a larger case to look nice on counters you can see the front and back from. And the DE1CAFE wasn't originally going to do both at the same time, that was changed later. You need to be following them and Rao on Instagram, or be in the Slack group, for those kind of updates. Presumably, the site will be changed once it's available to purchase.

It's pretty much impossible to keep up to date on coffee stuff without it. The only other sources of information are pretty bad, shit like HomeBarista's old men stuck 60 years in the past or /r/coffee's "whats the worlds best espresso machine and grinder I have $50 so I should have money to spare"
