Major cooking pleb filter. If you can’t season something yourself you aren’t cooking.

so if he emptied that bottle out, separated all the spices, then threw them on, it would qualify as cooking?

I'm not that guy but:

>so is using store-bought sauce pleb-tier?
for the most part, yes. The only sauces worth buying at the store are those which are a huge PITA to make, like Worcestershire or soy that require long-term aging. For things like ketchup, salad dressings, BBQ sauce, dips, salsa, etc, it is absoloutely much better to make those yourself.

>>Is buying curry powder pleb tier?
99% of the time it is, since most brands skimp on the expensive spices in the blend. You tend to get shorted on stuff like cardamom and saffron in premade blends. That said, good ones do exist, you just have to work to find them. Spice House's Maharaja blend is the only one I've found to be worth a damn. It's excellent, but priced accordingly.

blanket statements like this are retarded. What if I like particular store bought salsa? Oh no, guess I can't enjoy it without feeling guilty because I didn't chop up the same exact ingredients at home and not make it as good as the one I actually like.

Hey, if you like it then great. But more than likely there is a homemade alterantive which you would like even more, you just haven't discovered it yet. The chance that a random storebought product just so happens to match your personal preferences exactly is vanishingly unlikely. You would almost certainly like it better with some variation to the recipe. Maybe you like a little more onion or a little less jalapeno than the store brand used. When you cook for yourself you can make those kinds of adjustments.

I didn't mean to insult anyone for buying storebought stuff. It's certainly nothing you should feel guilty about. Just know that you can probably make something that you like even better by doing so yourself. I was trying to be helpful, not critical.

My spice cabinet is insane and I really need some way to better organize this. There just isn't enough space

But now I gotta go get that 21 spice. What's in the umami blend?

you have a lot of empty space on the bottom shelf. Cut the front out of a shoebox or something to create a faux shelf and double your space down there.
I don't even like mushrooms but the umami blend is so good, I put it on everything. It's my favorite of the three.

Explain.
Obviously everyone has their own preferances for what would be the ideal example of a given food. When you make the food yourself you can make exactly what you want. When you're buying foods you can only pick what happens to be the closest.

Is your understanding of statistics really this bad? Or do you just not care and whatever WallyWorld sells is good enough for you?

Anon most people are going to be fine with store-bought salsa and similar. And I don't understand why someone's preferences couldn't match a store-bought product, you haven't actually explained that at all. Maybe the product in the store has exactly what you'd want?

>Anon most people are going to be fine with store-bought salsa and similar.
Then say so. That's not the same thing as claiming "there is no difference".

>And I don't understand why someone's preferences couldn't match a store-bought product
Sorry, I thought that needs no explanation, but I'll do my best. Any dish is a combination of a bunch of different things. If we're talking salsa, for example, we've got the relative amounts of all the different veggies--how much tomato, how much onion, how much cilantro, etc. there's the matter of how those things are cut up: maybe I like big chunks but you like it pureed smooth? There's also the matter of the heat level, how salt it is, and so on. There's lots of variables. We all have different preferences for each. Maybe I like mine mild but you like really hot. Maybe I like a ton of onion but you hate onion, etc. So given that we have a ton of variables with a ton of options for each, the chance that any one store brand just so happens to match our exact preference is like winning the lottery--very unlikely. But when we make it ourself we have full control so if you want it extra-oniony with small chunks of tomato but big pieces of jalapeno with extra cumin then you can do exactly that.

>Maybe the product in the store has exactly what you'd want?
sure, maybe. But statistics tells us the chance of this happening is essentially zero. Most likely they'd have something close. What's the point of settling for close when you can have exactly what you want instead?

>>12222626
Why would they not be unique? sure, general trends exist, but why would you think that your personal preference would be exactly the same as someone else's? The rest of "you" isn't exactly like anyone else, so why would your tastes be?
