Makin some calico beans right now fren. I'd post pictures but 4chan says I'm not allowed to do that anymore.

All beans are great. Depends on the variety and time needed to prepare. I'll do stove top, crock pot, or instant pot.

for me it's Colombian style beans, i dont know how they're made but they're in some thicc sauce and sometimes have plantain chunks and other stuff mixed in, truly a 10/10

how'd you cook the kidney beans? are they fine on their own with some light seasoning?

>> No.12209154

>>12209090
>on their own
They're somewhat boring on their own, even with seasoning. The "least cooked" way I'd eath them is probably in a salad with 2-3 other elective ingredients (who am I kidding I eat them as them is but don't do as I do). Otherwise they're great in literally any stew, pot or sauce you'll make. Just don't cook them more than a couple of minutes.

>> No.12209191

>>12209154
Lol, I assume you're talking about canned beans. Cause if they're starting with raw kidney beans, then telling them to only cook them for a few minutes is a good way to get someone extremely sick.

Yeah. I just assumed that any country where you do not know how to deal with "raw" kidney beans does not sell them actually raw.

Pinto's are the best because they are usually the cheapest and they cook well.
I blanch them, soak them in salted water, and cook them in a pressure cooker in salted water for 1 minute + natural pressure release. They come out absolutely perfect.

>> No.12209253

>>12209245
oh forgot to mention, I rinse them after soaking, and also strain them after cooking, cool them down by running cold water over them, and store in fridge/freezer.

Raw beans are a bit labor intensive, so lots of people just use canned ones. I used only canned beans until I was in my 20s.

Absolutely. And that goes for the kinds of beans that don't give you violent diarrhea if consumed uncooked also.

This part? How so? Beans are generally underwhelming as fuck without a lot of tampering and boiling them yourself makes no difference whatsoever.

1. Kidney
(power gap)
2. Black
3. Pinto
4. White
5. Navy

A pot of "soup beans" made with kidney's instead of pintos + a smithfield ham (country ham) for seasoning is the ultimate bean dish. Kidney beans have more depth to them compared to pintos.

Refried black beans are the superior choice for that preparation.
