>> No.12058366

Almost all the buzz about Nusr-et, set in the former China Grill space in prime Midtown Manhattan, has been negative. The New York Post labeled its review “Public Rip-Off No. 1” and noted that after a $521.45 dinner for three, critic Steve Cuozzo still wanted a snack. GQ referenced mundane, rather tough steak, terrible cocktails, and $9 bottles of water because the restaurant declines requests for tap.

The city center of detroit is actually really nice. The bad parts are the areas immediately surrounding the downtown area. Once you get past that ring you get back into very wealthy suburbs like mine. I'm 15 minutes from downtown and my 900sqft house is worth over $200k. The only thing that stops Detroit from booming again is a lack of mass transit within the city. Lol 8 mile isn't even the bad part. Its just a lot of businesses that cater to poor blacks. Not sure I'd want to walk down 8 mile by myself all night as a white guy but it's not what you see in the movies and pop culture. The dangerous parts of detroit are the blighted neighborhoods of houses. The surround the city center. Those are the areas where you ignore stop signs and traffic signals because you might get carjacked if you stop for too long. The police won't even bother you for doing so.

This is the detroit you would actually visit but it doesn't make for good clickbait so most people never see it

I avoid restaurant pasta, since it's usually just store bought nastiness. Things with a filling are 95% just that.
Mostly since it's to much work, and it ends up costing too much on the menu.
One of the places I worked at ... we made all the pasta fresh. At almost a loss, since the owner figured the drinks would make up for it...
It's closed now. Didn't even last two years.

Local mushroom and black truffle tortellini. Everything made inhouse, priced as it would be store bought. People just didn't care, and it's a different taste since it doesn't have 20 additives.

You're pretty wrong about detroit decaying, Dan Gilbert and a shit ton of big businesses coming in are attracting a ton of young people to the city, it can literally only go up from where it was even a few years ago. You should see how much the locals hate "gentrifiers" (any white person), shit I can't even count the number of times I've been yelled at to leave the city by locals. Only bad parts are the surrounding hoods but isn't that any city?

Eh, I happen to have friends in high places downtown. Things are not going well. Restaurants are opening but Detroit still can’t attract big business. Officials fly in ceo’s And heads of companies all the time and give them the sales pitch and they all leave shaking their heads. Last year there were some VERY large Chinese investors who came to town looking to see if they wanted to bring business to the city. City officials gave them the song and dance but they actually left two days early. The city has no public transport, infrastructure is crumbling, politics are in shambles with corruption being rampant. Dan Gilbert and the Ilitch family have used their fortunes to jump start the city but wihout outside investment the city will continue to stagnate. I really have no hope. Public transport is a project the city could never afford and even if they somehow got the money it would be embezzled by politicians.

Sure it has none of those things NOW but it takes time. Plus with the LCA hosting a google office, quicken investing in MLine rail to address transit, and Chrystler opening an HQ here how can you say big businesses aren't coming in? I'm genuinely asking, I don't know much and I won't claim to. It just seems from my view that we are on the upswing and the very start of recovering, but it's going to take a while for sure.

>MLine rail
Mline was a huge waste of money. It accomplished nothing. It connects nothing with nothing. If it had stretched all the way to ferndale or royal oak then it would have been an accomplishment. Chrysler is preforming like shit just like the rest of the American auto industry. The city is treading water at best. We need new industries to move in and provide jobs in the downtown area. You’re talking about individual businesses, I’m talking about industries. We have none except the perpetually failing auto industry. The problem is no industry will move here without a healthy infrastructure. We can’t afford to revamp our infrastructure without tax revenue from new industries. See the problem? The auto industry fucked the city forever by successfully bribing the government not to build a transit system.

I cannot understand why someone would choose a literal meme restaurant over a proper Turkish cuisine one, it's not like the Turks have a big steak tradition (especially one that translates well to Western cuisine standards) as most of their meat game is kebab style grilled over fire usually using a skewers. Why would someone choose this in Constantinople over say Musa Dagdevirens restaurant (memed through Netflix but with actual both great taste and true Turkish cuisine).
In the end he was just a dude who got internet famous for salting meat...basing an enterprise over it especially targeting rich clientele was a surefire recipe for failure.

There are thousands of very rich Venezuelan families fighting against Maduro. The rich in general have been against Chavez and Maduro.

What do you think was happening before Chavez came along? People were starving even worst than they are now. But back then, nobody gave a shit because the elite rich Venezuelans had US support.

i live in florida and as far as i know every restaurant has to provide free tap water but one time at Dunkin Donuts they tried to charge me 25 cents for a cup for "free water"
>inb4 just pay the quarter
long story short my parents staged an intervention for my neetdom after not leaving my room for 3 months and put me in a program where i had to learn to be an adult and part of the program was taking the bus around applying for jobs and i had no money so i couldn't afford the cup
it was in fucking august too it was so hot outside eventually they relented and gave me the cup but still
charge as much as you want for bottled water, but you gotta offer free tap in my opinion

I love that percentage creeping. They increase it much faster than cost of living and inflation.

Per hour waitresses are making more than the fucking chefs. Not the cooks, the fucking chefs. Stop giving them so goddamned much. Uneducated, unskilled labor does not need to drag in, I'm not exaggerating, over 80K a year.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers, but I'm not really sure why. I understand what it means to budget just fine, I'm saying I also understand why poor people in America don't bother. The ones who do bother, I have doubts about their understanding of what they're accomplishing. Do they know what hip surgery costs? Cancer treatment? Cateract surgery? Just play "spin the bottle" and pick an old folks condition, it's going to happen because that's how the human body works. One thing like that and goodbye all those small things they skipped all their life to "save for retirement". A lifetime of living in the moment, up in smoke because their eye stopped working or they need to still walk (imagine needing to walk, right?)

Do they understand what sort of investments they'd require in order to "retire" in the sense that is normally meant by the term "retire", and do they understand that they won't ever reach that amount within their projected lifespan, given the fact that they are probably going to be relying on healthcare services aimed at the extremely poor, and probably working a physical job where their earning years basically end for good at the traditional age of 55, if not sooner due to accidents or chronic work-related damage?

And what exactly would it mean for someone to "find their way to adulthood"? Is that where I gain 75 pounds and think about golf and fishing all the time? I'm happy not to ever reach "adulthood" if that is what you mean.

Point being, I can find the motivation to eschew the lifestyle inflation some of my peers have pursued, because I can still live a reasonably decent life without overspending. But a person making half of what I make? Fuck no. Someone like that literally has to stress over what brand of beer to buy - or whether they can afford beer at all.

I feel bad for people in those situations and I do not look down on them for blowing their "budget" on a nice TV, or "nigger welfare waste" as you might say.
