Hello /ck/

I'm trying to buy a stockpile of dry/canned goods to last through down-periods

I want to buy bulk things like rice and beans, but other than those two I'm not sure what foods are good for this purpose.

What are some good stockpile-worthy foods I can store up in a pantry that will keep for a long while? What types of beans should I buy? Are there any particular canned goods worth keeping around? Are there other things I'm not thinking of?

canned hams last the longest and don't need water unlike rice and dry beans which need a considerable amount of water to make edible. peanut butter is also good because a jar has a crazy amount of calories in it with tons of protein and fats/oils. But there is nothing like being able to produce your own food and thats where mushrooms come in, they can be grown indoors, without light, without fertile soil, they grow super quick in large quantities and are very nutritious and full of vitamins which are hard to get if you eating a bunch of rice and beans.

can you suggest some mushrooms to get started with? how much space do I need for a reasonable amount?

here are some small indoor grow patches you can check out, i personally hate mushrooms but i tried the Shiitake mushrooms just to make sure i could handle them in case i needed to.

Or you can do it outside and you can seed the area around where you live and have them already growing and be there if you need them. They aren't going to attract attention like a corn field or water melon patch. Just a incognito patch of food growing under you porch

people tend to oversell their health benefits but they are used in some actual medicines, just understand its like taking a aspirin for a gun shot wound.. it will help reduce inflammation which is good but its not enough by its self. But it sure doesn't hurt to stack the deck especially in a dire situation when you're surviving on canned food
