My mother did the baking, which was excellent, and she was able to make meatballs or lasagna if Father was working nights.

But to answer the question, while we ate fruit everyday growing up, we just got it for our own damn selves. My mother raised us to be independent. And we did just as well as the Asian kids while at school, if not better.

My parents never do this for me, and I'm thankful. Leftovers on Thanksgiving and Christmas, and that's about it. We rarely ate meals together as a family.

The reason I like it is because it taught me to eat when I was hungry, not as some social norm, scheduled ritual every few hours, or feeling like I was rejecting their love. So, I didn't turn into a fatty.

There are a lot of things my parents fucked up, but this isn't one of them.

Living in mormon Utah for school and observing the culture here.
