It's infuriating that Americans regard Jack Daniels as "cheap" whisk(e)y. It's 36€ here for 0.7l. Sure there's about 12€ flat tax and 23% VAT*, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was 5€ "rocker whisky" extra slapped on it in the name of free market.
*(I calculated the tax free price for the cheapest vodka once: turned out to be about 4€.)

You get stuff like Old Virginia 6 Year Old or Kentucky Gentleman for 26€ for 0.7, Jim beam goes for 27.50€. I suppose the real rotgut doesn't even get exported.

Cheapest whiskys go for about 22€ for 0.7. Such as Highland Reserve or Sam Barton, both are suitable for chugging purposes. Sir Edward's smoky is for sipping.
