The saliva you may leave on the spoon is the main issue. If I spit into the freezer, would you want to eat that? Of course not. This is why it's not good etiquette. However, if you are careful about it and make sure to leave ABSOLUTELY no saliva on any part of the spoon and/or remaining ice cream on the spoon before taking another scoop, it is 100% acceptable. I often do this, but never in view of others, because they will assume that you left some saliva on the spoon before taking another scoop.
