ITT talk about creative substitutes for bread in common recipes

I had a burger today without the bun and grease just went everywhere, then I discovered this so as soon as I make another burger I'll post results if it worked well or not. Anyone try rice patties instead of a bread bun? any other ways to soak up the delicious burger grease? I'm not interested in gluten free bread or things that exactly try to mimic bread without wheat, I'm more looking for the challenge of not eating bread in things that normally have bread just because interesting challenges produce good results sometimes

lettuce is the common choice but it doesn't soak up the grease, also I don't keep lettuce, it just seems like I don't go through it fast enough and doesn't have enough micro nutrients for the price

another favorite of mine is having a soft boiled egg or eggs over easy on buttered toast. I can just eat the eggs without bread but I wonder what some interesting alternatives would be, maybe potato pancakes?

without the requirement to make the yolk soft, you can use the egg itself as the sides of a sandwich and put bacon or something else in the middle (I often have the toast egg sandwich with bacon too, though I've also given up nitrates lately)

No, it doesn’t soak up the grease, but the grease does coat it like salad dressing.

bao is still technically bread, would be interesting to try though! I'd just as soon try making gyoza if I were going that route

almost forgot, mochi is a thing! easy to make too

bonus, you can use little bits of unsweetened mochi to cover cat pills in, if you ever have to pill a cat, one way to make it easier

Well you'd need something starchy because nothing else is really going to soak up grease. There are sandwiches that use flattened plantains instead of bread. You could probably do the same thing with potatoes.

that sounds like it could be good, never had a plantain but I know that they're often cooked and eaten like chips

That would probably be good, if you precook the mushrooms a bit otherwise it's going to be pretty wet
