Guys! My beer stein has arrived!

It's so big and heavy. It makes me feel like I'm drinking ale in a medieval tavern.

Do Americans really buy this?

Pretty sure that's not a stein, it's a tankard as there's no lid.

Tankards are nice, have a full liter stainless steel one for either water or pouring an entire bottle of mead into and getting drunk like an indoor viking

As souvenirs to put on shelf to display like in home bar or man cave. We don't typically use them. We use glassware or drink from the can or bottle.

Tankards can have lids.

OP is a keferloher, which IS stein: steinzeug means stoneware.

Thank you for the clarification, I had no idea

>> No.12000548

Further clarification then: a keferloher is a regional style of bierkrug, or simply a mug.
OP's in particular is also a masskrug, sized for the maximum legal 1L serving of beer, or 1 mass.

I have one of those kriegels with lid. Good for keeping flies, wasps and bees out of your beer.

I was born in and have lived in Bavaria all 44 years of my life, I dont think I have ever seen anyone actually drink beer from one of those. Get a 1l glass Maßkrug or a 0,5l Weißbier glass for authenticity.

Sevus, fellow bavarian oldfag!
You never been to the Forschungsbrauerei in Perlach/munich.
Like every year they start their season yesterday on Aschermittwoch.
First weeks in Fastenzeit you only get the St.Jacobus. A strong Bockbier.
Every Kind of beer is only served in the 1L Steinseidl there.
Also you can survive like four or five of them.
But only with the famous Leberknoedlsuppn they make.
They established glass Mass in the eighties for Oktoberfest.
People got suspicious about the beer/foam ratio in the stone. They didnt trust the Wiesnwirte.

It’s pretty popular here in Czech actually. My grandfather always used to drink from one of those. Keeps beer cold and the protection is worth it. Always hear scary stories about someone drinking wasp in beer and getting stung in throat/tongue. Nasty shit.
