most microwaves are programmed so that if you put a number above 60 in, it'll convert the whole number to seconds

depends on the microwave, but mine does in fact give you 2 minutes 90 seconds, and will count down to 2:89, down to 2:00, then roll over to 1:59 and continue on normally

You'll have to learn to read and use microwave time. putting in 99 will cook food for 99 seconds, but entering 100 will only cook for 60 seconds, this is very important to understand. to convert real time to microwave time you multiply by .6. for example you want to cook something for 400 seconds. 400 x 0.6 = 240 so you'd enter 240 (shows up as 2:40). my microwave has a calculator to help with this but not all do.

Speaking of, this whole concept of "microwave time" sounds foreign to an European. I think here pretty much all microwaves have you input first minutes and then seconds.

Phone pads are rare, more likely you'll have minutes up/down and 10 seconds up/down buttons.
