Brassica isn't bad, but Solanales literally changed the culinary landscape forever. Could you imagine where we'd be without potatoes and tomatoes? Not to mention tobacco basically made the US an economic superpower before it was even independent. FFS, potatoes and tomatoes are the "national food" of several European countries, and chili peppers are indelible hallmarks of many different cuisines in Asia and beyond, despite all of these being fairly recent "New World" crops. All this, on top of Solanaceae being a family unironically named for being deadly, yet we as humans have tamed that wild spirit. Most brassicaceae is edible even in its wild, non-bred state, but eating any wild Solanaceae is asking for a bad time.

We bred all sorts of citrus fruits from 3 varieties, apparently

>> No.11984078

Brassica oleracea is amazing. I work with it at my university and it's so much fun. Since they're all the same species, they can be bred with each other however you like. For example, we bred brussel sprouts with kale and got little brussel sprout like "cabbage heads" that looked like savoy and tasted more like kale than brussel sprouts.
