I'm giving these a try, completely open minded and let's see what we come up with

The claim is its indiscernable from beef
At $12 a pound I should hope so. Now I'm initially skeptical it will be exact but I'm interested to see how comparable it is as an alternative to a beef burger

First impressions is the color, it doesnt look like beef however that doesnt bother me. It does come from different sources so it gets a pass on that

As soon as I open it however there is an intense smell, it's pretty awful. Its reminiscent of wet cat food, very pungent

>indiscernable
Fuck no.
It wasn't bad, but it's not like meat. It's very spongey

I'm also interested in these. My girlfriend unfortunately decided that she's vegan now, and I'd like something we could eat together.

>> No.11964422

I had the A&W beyond meat burger. It was okay. Didn't taste like meat and the texture does that thing where it falls apart in your mouth. But if you don't want to eat meat but for some reason want to eat something that resembles a burger then I guess it does the trick.

Idk what's in those, but there's a vegetarian restaurant in my city that I had to go to a few times cause my gf was a veggie for a few months, and they had a bean based burger that was actually really good. Didn't taste anything like meat, and wasn't satisfying the same way, but had great flavor and texture, and was pretty filling

The cooking method is exactly how I would cook a regular burger, in a seasoned pan with a drop of oil on the bottom

Initially I notice it's not sticky the way meat is. And has a very spongy texture, but we can see how cooking changes that

Over time it did crisp up nicely on each side and took on that crust more easily than beef does

Checking temp was challenging by touch because even though it fully cooked and firming up some, it remained incredibly soft

The final product is soft, spongy, and unexpectedly greasy in the center
It's very unpleasant

As far as the taste goes there is a nicely seared crust but it not only doesnt resemble beef, it doesnt resemble any meat I have ever had
It is very clearly a veggie burger, everything about it tastes like processed macerated vegetable protein

To be perfectly honest a frozen Salisbury steak with 60% soy protein and binders you find in a TV dinner has a more pleasing flavor and texture than this

It not only doesnt resemble meat but its truthfully one of the worst if not the worst veggie burgers I've ever eaten
It's hard to eat, 2 bites and I dont want to finish it
I can only say people who tried this and said it's a beef analogue must be lying and getting paid.

It also stunk up my whole kitchen
Please dont buy into this scam
If you're looking for something other than meat there are so many better veggie burgers on the market

>> No.11964484

Side note, to be perfectly transparent I did like that it didnt really shrink in the pan any noticeable amount and was easy to press to the perfect size and thickness you wanted

But being able to perfectly fit on your bread doesnt matter much when the flavor is bad

Get some black bean burgers instead

I thought they were good, but not 20 grams of coconut fat for $12 a pound good. And absolutely NOT beef. Not by a long shot. I'd eat it again though, it's just not beef or that healthy.

I tried these a few months ago. Cooked them on a griddle with the same seasonings i use in real beef. Similar experience. They smell exactly like wet canned dog food, have a similar texture, and taste how you'd imagine dog food to taste. Made my whole house reek of dog food for days, and even though I don't finish mine, I had a horrible aftertaste in my mouth for hours.

i actually really enjoy some meat substitutes (gardein makes some killer chick'n tendies) but I hated these.

That's because the stickiness and sizzling sound from cooking meat comes from the juices leaking out.

the impossible could only conceivably be better than this thing. It set the bar pretty low
that said if its made of similar stuff and intended to fill the same market niche it can't be all that good either

I will however reserve judgement until I taste one

something I don't like is that it's being kept on store shelves in the beef section next to other hamburgers and not in the fake meat section. Not sure why this brand gets a pass

Been a while since I've made them and I never use exact measurements, so this recipe is all approximations. It's pretty simple though and easy to experiment with so you can't really go wrong if you know what you're doing, it's pretty forgiving in that way.
>1 can of black beans
>1/2 large cooked sweet potato (or a whole small one), peeled
>1/2 cup bread crumbs
>1 egg
>Salt, pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, little bit of cumin, anything else you like
Just mash everything up together, form patties and pan-fry in a little oil.
If the mix is too wet and sticky, add more breadcrumbs, but you don't want them to be too dry either. I've found that they're the perfect consistency when you're able to easily form patties without having too much stick to your hands. Hope you like them anons.
