I'm in a design related industry and this shit is unironically what sells a design. There are countless firms that can do a logo that looks "cool" but having a design with a story behind it, and what that story is, is what really sets it appart to the client.

Graphic designer here, making up some text about the design is part of the process. You can't just tell the truth, that you did a design because it kinda looked cool and you went on with it. The industry pretty much requires you to deliver some backstory with bullshit buzzwords like "synergy" or "dynamism" in it. The bigger the client, the more you dumb crap you have to add or else the pretentious assholes in the marketing teams won't buy it. This is how you end up with the pepsi fat guy logo having motherfucking magnetic fields.

It’s annoying that we can recognize the brand pictured and do have words put to the logo. Call me a socialist retard but it’s frustrating that when these graphs are made we don’t ever see the thin font “Pepsi” on the bottom of the logo itself so it isn’t so minimal.

That’s how the old ones were done, and that’s how it should be now. Sorry.

I'm also in marketing and we completely bullshit the story. It's funny seeing these suits being pseudo intellectuals. It reminds me of when they had that elephant slap a bunch of paint on a canvas and told art experts that it was some famous painter and to critique the work. These faggots sit there and tell you the meaning/what the artist was thinking but in reality it was just some baby elephant getting his grind on akin to a toddler playing in a sandbox.

I agree with both of you, but from the limited things I've seen in my life, a lot of the people at the top are happily willing to pay a premium to have other people overthink things so they don't have to. A lot of the C-level guys are living human shitfilters, and they're looking for something that can get past them. That's something they can use against other C-levelers for their own gain. Most of these guys fly around at 50,000 ft, whereas normal people like you or me are at 5,000.

In these campaigns, these C-level guys are looking for complete bullshit that spans 500ft-50,000ft with equal impenetrable bullshit in every single altitude. This is what they're paying for. They're paying explicitly for the fact that it's complete bullshit, but it's impenetrable bullshit, and at every altitude. Including their altitude, and may give them something to whack another C-level over the head with.
