i am not making this up

the cinema i went to when I traveled to the states even had a guard up there to keep people from drinking the butter directly out of the fountain

I love movie theater popcorn but that shit is rancid. It’s already greasy when you get it.

>> No.11914285

This may be a thing at some theaters, but it’s not universal and I’ve never seen it.
The whole point of the concession stands in movie theaters is to sell overpriced food to moviegoers in a captive envirenment.
Popcorn is a major sales item, because the major cost is the popcorn maker, with bulk irders of popcorn and popcorn buckets/bags being well behind.
I think I estimated once, that a jumbo tub of popcorn likely costs the theater probably $.25 or less, and most popcorn is probably closer in cost to $.10 or $.05.
The largest cost of the popcorn itself would be the container, or possibly the “butter” if it’s really butter.
Basically, three or four customers buying a popcorn and soda at the concession stand can pay for the entire shift for the worker of the stand, and after that it’s mostly profit.

Blah blah blah
If this exists anywhere, it's extreme enough to be newsworthy

It's so you can't take the butter with you to the kinoplex showers, you used to be able to butter up your body for cinema but now with the low fat fad, kino guards are cutting costs.

It's not butter it's oil with butter flavoring.

By the way you can by the flavoring and it's amazing on homemade popcorn.

Only niggers go to cinemas anymore in the USA. There's no reason to go to a cinama, aka movie theatre when the movie wont start until 45 mins or so after commercials and you're expected to sit around in that shit hole. You see, eurocuck, we have technology so we don't have to go to cinimas aka movie theatres anymore. It's a waste of time.

Yeah, this is a point of contention for me as well. You are right to criticize us for this.

>cinemas in america have actual honest to god butter fountains

It isn't only a matter of decadence/bad healthy trends as much as you think it is. It is a business decision.

It simply removed the employee from the process of it all. No more face to face interaction or question about wanting it, or more of it, or none of it, no pregnant pause of judgement or criticism in tone in the answer, or the public announcement of being a fatty to the people standing around listening nearby. No insecurity to ask for more. No dripping bag or a person who handles money handling the greasy machine and your food, or handing it to the patron while people are juggling money and napkins and their other shit and getting out of line faster. No more grease on the floor behind the registers, too.

The point of butter fountains isn't just the fake buttery flavor and empty fat grams, but the fact that popcorn is cold and on the way to stale and the oil is hot and warms up popcorn sitting in a glass box with nothing more than a heat light for who knows how long. Popping salty grease isn't as delicious or effective as years past when the food police first attacked hydrogenated coconut palm oil.

"Oh, you put too much, you ruined my pants, and you need to pay for dry cleaning!" All the control and the responsibility is back on the patron now, and they aren't walking up to the front of the register for more. It's do it yourself and stay away if you aren't buying anything. Freestyle machines are doing free drink refills and making soda choice decisions without employee involvement now too.

Aerosolized micro-particulates of solid oil vapor is a inhalation problem when first opening a hot and pressure driven microwaved bag of popcorn.
They'll find out one day that vaping is the same thing over time. Stupid youth of today don't know about stage workers who worked with fog machines hurt their lungs.

Why were you trying to drink the butter?

It's flavored Crisco equivalent, not real butter. It's to make up for the fact you just paid $16.50 for your popcorn and large mega sized soda.

>>11914285
It's pretty common in Southern California. Many even provide shakers with different flavorings, like BBQ, cheddar, lemon pepper, etc.
