I grew up in Houston. I haven't lived there for a few years, but my favorite places were...

Chapultepec
House of Pies
Niko Niko's
Cali Sandwich
BB's Cajun
Killen's BBQ
Mala Bistro
Mai's
Hobbit Cafe
Any of the trillion dumpling joints in Chinatown

Where in town? Houston is fucking huge

Go to the following restaurants:

Pho Sapa off Bellaire
Spanish Flowers
Les Givrals off Milam
MF Sushi
Bubba's Burger Shack
Antonio's Flying Pizza

>> No.11889890

BB's and Hobbit are the only halfway good ones here and they aren't special.

BBQ is surprisingly bad in Houston.

Ramen bar ichi is good but they don't make their own noodles. Check out Catalina Coffee if you like coffee/tea. Stantons has probably the best burger in Houston. Star's Pizza is very good, I prefer the thin crust but their Chicago is good. Plenty of gas station taco trucks, the good ones only take cash and it is a 50-50 shot if they're legal. Try whataburger if you haven't before and experience the best fast food chain, #2 w/ cheese is my go to order. Some good places for pho but I don't really know of must go places for pho I kind of just get what's near by. Peli Peli has very good South African food but it is fairly pricey, the steak Espada is my personal favorite. Carl's BBQ is pretty good but maybe look for another BBQ restraunt if you want something nicer. Cypress breakfast house has some good tex-mex breakfast.

But yeah those are the must go places for me, I'd definetly check out Stantons because it has a cool atmosphere and Catalina Coffee is right down the road.

Depends. The Tex Mex is just generic usually. There are like 9999999 tex Mex places that serve the same canned shit. For a more authentic Mexican experience, try the taco trucks (food truck trend started in Houston selling to construction workers and yard guys). They have pastor and lengua and all the good shit. Hugo Ortega also has 3 high endish places for authentic Mexican food.

Rainbow lodge is probably the best overall restaurant imo if you want a fancy meal.

Go to bellaire for the best Asian food in america except maybe San francisco.

I wonder why authentic Mexican food isn't more widespread considering the huge Mexican and Mexican-American population there.

House of Pies is a great suggestion but only go after midnight. BB's and Hobbit Cafe are alright. Aladdin is a better alternative to Niko Niko's. Killen's is vastly overrated, I love Texas BBQ but I haven't really found a great place for it in Houston, just lots of OK places. Mai's is good but so are a million other hole in the wall Vietnamese places, but OP should definitely get pho at least once.

>>11891899
La Guadalupana for breakfast and lunch, Ninfa's on navigation or El Tiempo for the basic texmex and fajitas, Hugo's or Xochi for fancy. Other than that there's just way too many options to sort through and 90% of them are really mediocre, you just have to try places nearby to find a decent one.

>>11895265

If he's in Houston on business, there is a 100% chance that someone will take him to a Pappas restaurant. They're all fine if you're going there on a company card, just not worth going out of your way for.

Go to Burger joint, Nikos, Bb's, Fat Bao, Frank's, Good dog, Eastwood.
Just hang around Montrose and you'll find good food, shopping, and someone to split you like a coconut
