I honestly have trouble connecting with other people knowadays. Been like that since the start of college, or maybe I've always been like that, but the crutch of having friends I grew up with blinded me from that fact. Currently I've graduated, gonna leave my home soon, so I hope to find myself some new hobbies, maybe meet people I can connect with. I've always watched anime, but never associated with people who liked it. Maybe it's time I changed that.

Anime fans have to be some of the worst people I met to be honest. I used to part of a few clubs and groups but holy shit. You'll never find a more desperate and immature group of people.

A few suggestions for ya.

Try going to a cooking class. Look online for any in your area. They teach you various recipes and you can meet people who also like cooking.

Painting classes can be fun too. Most of the time it's just rich soccer moms who want to drink wine because they are bored being at home all day. If you can cook something and bring it in you might impress them.

Don't just limit yourself to your own interests. Try something new and you might me those people you just really click with. You might even find something special

Funny enough. The anime club I was in were people that were kicked out of all the other asian clubs for being creeps.

If you are asian and go to an anime club. You will be worshipped. I went because they offered me discounts for conventions and other things.
