Some craft beer places will do tasting paddles, i suggest heading there and trying some. Start with choosing styles at random and note down the ones you like (or hate least) then investigate those and related styles further.

Do you live near any vinyards etc? Cellar door tastings could be a good idea.

For cocktails and other spirits it'd probably be best to head to a bar and try things.

At a shitty bar you only stick to1-2 drink types. That’s the average flyover bar hence why flyovers think it’s pretentious to drink anything other than shitty beer and horrid commodity tier brown grain liquors

At a better place you may have more options depending on whether it’s a wine bar or a beer garden or an izakaya or whatever

It looks weird to order the wrong thing at the wrong place because it won’t be good and they probably don’t have it anyway

Or if you’re in flyover land it’s because you might get assaulted on suspicion of being homosexual because if you’re not a “regular normal guy” you’re either gay, Al Qaeda, or possibly even an illegal immigrant

Just go to a bottle shop/liquor store as ask the staff.
The staff are all either high functioning alcoholics or just people that fucking love drinking. Just say you're new to drinking and you're looking for a really easy-to-drink, crisp and refreshing beer to start on, then expand from there

Next time order a Moscato. Its a very light fruity\sweet wine than anyone can handle. Order a glass of water too. After every sip of wine drink some water to make your drink last. Do this and your workers will be on yheir 3rd glass while you're still on you first. This way you can socially drink without getting smashed and not be a tetotaling weirdo

figuring out what you like is trial and error
my advice is to slowly start trying the major spirits (rum, whiskey, tequila, gin, vodka) see what stands out to you. go to a bar and order two drinks, both using different spirits.
for instance - a gimlet and a manhattan
repeat the process for other forms of booze.
also think what type of flavors you enjoy in food, do you like bitter or savory flavors most? sour? sweet? that will inform your deicison on what types of drinks you may enjoy.
obviously you dont have to always try drinks out of a bar, that is more for trying cocktails.

This is very bad advice. Driving on psychedelics is not safe and LSD today is known for being impure and nearly impossible to tell the exact dosage of. This isn't the 60's or 70's anymore sadly and most acid is actually research chemicals. Fuck that advice.

anyway... vodka cranberries are a great place to start if you've never drank, or better yet a vodka soda water. Some people prefer Gin and tonic too, but that's not really my thing. I do know that bombay sapphire, beefeater, and hendrick's all make good Gin though. Jack Daniel's mixed with coke is another really popular drink for newbie drinkers and veterans alike. If you like the bite of whiskey, Jameson on the rocks (Just literally the alcohol and ice cubes like in your picture) is another great drink. Don't order spectialty cocktails that are unique to the bar as they usually are super expensive and are usually shit unless you are at a really nice place. If you want to order a beer, steer towards what is on draft first, as draft beer tastes much better than a bottle.
