People with nice things...yes. Having a nice table means you would probably 100% of the time have a tablecloth or placemats before doing anything at that table, with anyone other than just yourself. It's etiquette, but it's also protective from scratches. The napkin would give you the ability to blot your mouth, and later, a place to set down your spoon in a cup that would tip over.

Eating a yogurt cup is kind of diet-ish. There is some diet wisdom to slow down and enjoy food, and to not eat standing up or while doing other things. It can lead to over eating or mindless eating.
