There's no way to effectively replicate them. Planters has said they will never bring them back. They are but a distant memory that fades more and more with every year.

3D doritos are one of the strangest marketed things I ever remember.
It was first introduced to commercials in the super bowl ads for the 99 season, so early 2000. I looked every time I went to the store and never saw them until almost a year later.
I am 99% positive about this. but I never asked/talked/heard about why it took so long to get them in stores.
did anyone else remember what I'm remembering almost 20 years ago?

It was a very thin crisp peanut butter cookie which had soft peanut butter cream inside. Not a hard peanut butter spread but a very soft cream that would feel melty when you ate it. The cookie wasn't too crunchy or thick--not like those peanut butter cream cookie syou can find today, but not hard and tooth-hurting like those peanut butter honey candies either.

It was honestly perfection that they probably couldn't replicate now if they wanted to.

Seems like the hardest part is getting the right thin consistency of the cookie. Too thick and it's like those peanut butter cookies. But then you have to worry about it being too hard/shell-like, since it needs to be something you can easily chomp open with your teeth.

Good luck... good luck.
