Because of this, the ruling classes began to see spice less and less as a sign of wealth, and more of a simple commodity that everyone has access to. Because of this, it became the norm, for those within high society, to cook without the aid of spices, instead, choosing to bring out a foods natural flavors, rather than muting them with spices.
