What brand? I find storebouht kombucha ferments for too long on store shelves. I prefer a sweet, lightly tart immature kombucha which means I have to make it myself

According to the "gut biome theories" you're supposed to eat a wide variety of fruits, veggies, grains, fungi (which contain a wode variety of different fibers) to feed your gut bacteria.
The research on specific bacteria isn't very compelling but it is pretty amazing how a fecal transplant can turn someone from fit to obese with no lifestyle changes.

The problem is that most kombucha is not well regulated because it contains multiple cultures and not just one. Also because it's fad diet bullshit. Your risk of getting something nasty far outweighs any possible probiotic benefits imo.

Man I love kombucha. I work at whole foods and were getting in the alcoholic stuff soon and I'm pumped. For me, it's way better than soda. Sounds like you got the health food flavors, which is pretty gross. Look for one's like basil pink lady and blood orange. Don't buy any with weird savory flavors or kale.
