There are tons of flavorful tomatoes, just not the kind you can buy at Wal-Mart in the middle of winter. Flavorful tomatoes tend to be older breeds, bred primarily for taste before the primary factors behind developing new strains of vegetables changed to be things like shelf stability, high yield, and hardiness to long transport by truck. Get some tomatoes from a good heirloom breed- hell even some new varietals- and they can be amazing, but they are often really hard to transport and entirely limited to a certain time of year.
